The answer is YES. Bias, tradition, and history all have some role to play in not just the gender gap, but gaps in race, language, sexual orientation, and gender identity as well.

It is OK for women to gush over celebrities. They are encouraged to do so. They don't have anything else important to do.

But men are discouraged from gushing over celebrities. They have a responsibility to earn and become breadwinners for their family.

It is OK for Salman Khan to take off his shirt and romance young women who could be his daughter. A woman who attempts to do the same will be s**t shamed and have her integrity questioned.

It is OK for a man to ignore everything and dedicate everything to perfecting his craft (sports, music, acting whatever). A woman who attempts to do the same will be deemed selfish and rejected.

There is a lot of historical bias, social structure, gender conditioning that prevents women from being as successful. In the realm of movies it will take time and effort and some thoughtful planning for women to generate the same amount of success. But I think there are a lot of baby steps and small changes to go before women deliver 300K films.

In film, things are changing for marginalized groups.

Wonder Woman showed that a woman can carry an entire action film on her shoulders.

Love Simon proved that a gay love story can become a teenage romcom hit.

Black Panther showed that an all-black cast can deliver a commercially successful film.

Crazy Rich Asians hit box office gold despite being only the second film in history to be all Asian

50% of that responsibility is in making compelling good movies that everyone loves. 50% of it is in having audiences shift their perceptions of what makes a compelling good movie.

lets see. i have no issue with women ruling this world..equal pay is a nothing lol

LOL. You don't need to praise everything. But I don't see a solid counter. However, we can agree to disagree.

----------

Equal pay for equal work is what I stand by. I see no reason why two people with the same qualifications should get different pay.

Now seniority and past performance do factor into higher pay. Someone with 10 years industry experience warrants more money than a fresh out of college first-time job seeker. A salesperson who exceeds quota deserves more pay than a salesperson who struggles to meet a quota.

But I don't think you should pay anyone with "predicted" box office results. Pay should never be paid on prediction models. Highly anticipated movies can be duds. And unexpected movies can turn out to be big hits. Box office failures can rake in money on DVD and streaming licensing. Box office hits see precipitous falls in collections. A 300 cr movie can result in 1% ROI. But a 3 crore movie may result in 100% ROI. Since the Lifetime value of a film and ROI is variable and unpredictable, I do not think it can ever make a good benchmark for payment models.

If two people have the same amount of screen time and importance in the movie, they deserve equal pay. If one is a newcomer and one is a senior star, it is fair the senior star gets more pay. But two people in the industry for the same amount of time putting in the same amount of work deserve equal pay. Unlike the box office "prediction" model this model of fair pay applies across all films, including films made for film festivals and streaming.

So if a woman sees that her male costar who has been in the industry the same amount of time as her or even less than her but makes more money, she can demand more fairly.

If stars believe their past hits warrant them more money then pay as base + BO returns just like salespeople work on base + commission. This model is better for investors as well. They don't risk losing money because an overinflated star delivered a dud.
I don't see equal pay for equal work as just a feminist issue or related to the only Bollywood. It is a global issue that encompasses race, sexual orientation, and gender identity as well. And "predicted" box office is not a good model.

Two final points

- Yes base + profit share is best model

- In current model its not prediction. Its about initial value that a star brings in. Male actors with a weak lead bring in bigger collections than female actors with weak leads. Which is an indicator that producers are looking at.

Obviously it does not work...always..hence salman has even returned.

In conclusion i dont think there is any girl out there who deserves equal pay compared to A list male actors. They should get more pay than B list male actors. Within A-A, males should get more. in fields like IT its easier to give all equal pay. we were talking about movies only

What a classic example

#HappyPhirrBhagJayegi stays STRONG on Mon... Decline on Mon [vis--vis Fri]: 24.07%... Fri 2.70 cr, Sat 4.03 cr, Sun 5.05 cr, Mon 2.05 cr. Total: 13.83 cr. India biz.

#Gold has an EXCELLENT *extended* opening weekend... Took a dip on Day 2, but gradually picked up from Day 3 to Day 5... All eyes on Mon-Thu biz... Wed 25.25 cr, Thu 8.10 cr, Fri 10.10 cr, Sat 12.30 cr, Sun 15.55 cr. Total: 71.30 cr. India biz.

Of course, they should the gender disparity is very unfair towards actresses. I won't talk about box office and the Khans because that's just pointless not even the current superstars can give their kinda box office on a steady basis so expecting that from the actresses in a society that's not a very pro-female activist is just asking for way too much. But let's just go down to the very basics how much is an average actress paid? Take that number and compare it to an average actor's salary, not even a superstar lets say a Suraj Pancholi or an Ayush Sharma who do you think is paid more a Kriti Sanon or a Suraj Pancholi? I'm not even talking about 'value' here. The pay gap is huge the male counterparts are paid double for the same amount of work as the female ones. How is this fair? I'm not saying give them a paycheck as fat as the Khans but don't tell me that they don't deserve the same amount of pay as some very nondeserving male actors do just because of their gender.

when a Deepika gets paid around 10-12Crs who is the supposedly 'highly paid actress' and other actors are paid something between 30-35Crs then I think you take what Kriti makes and multiply it by 2 and you'd get Pancholi's paycheck number 😆 simple logic. Unless you have numbers to prove me wrong 😉

ur post achieved an initial rating of 100 out of 100 and then I multiplied it by 2 to get 200 and then i divided it by 1 and multiply by 0 to get final rating of 0

lol... onus is on u to provide evidence. and supplement it with facts.

based on my sense i dont think panchioli would get more than sanon

sense or intuition that's what you're going for really? 😆 I can't take you seriously after that and you're not getting any ratings from me at all. At least I applied logic lol! Good luck with your senses and thanks for the laugh
