Quite disappointed with Hirani. I had plans to watch Sanju for Hirani alone. (I always know, Ranbir is a great actor. But his presence or absence is not a decision factor for me to watch a movie).

Teaser showed, It is typical Hirani's brand. Also Hirani repeatedly said, they have not tried to white wash Sanjay Dutt at all. I trusted him. But the trailer (the jail scene) which made me hesitated.
I wondered whether it would be a fun film or not. I waited for the audience reviews. But I was shocked at the reactions, how they all came pitying Sanjay Dutt.
I am in double mind. Should I just go and watch Sanju just as an entertaining movie? After all, I have paid to watch Munnabhai series too.
But there was no problem in falling in love with Munnabhai. But knowing that, this is so called a biography, but utterly hypocritical, will I tolerate? Forget AK 47. Even then Sanjay Dutt was romancing his female lead when his wife was battling cancer and seems there is no mention of that in movie. Can I digest it?

Lot many directors do it (whitewashing). But honestly did not expect it from Hirani.

lol...yeh already dry clean ho chuka hai.

@ sanjay.

I think we can say he has done criminal things...and for that he has got punishment.

terrorism? no..thats a lie...its false. i dont think sanjay dutt wanted to help kill his own countrymen ..

sometimes you are associated with someone and that someone does something bad then u get involved as well.

i know many many bollywood people were in bed with bhais...their movie were being funded.. sanjay dutt made mistake of getting too close..but no way i am going to say he had terrorist intentions

so yes he has done criminal activity for sure...he got punishment.. he repents...he took drugs and did other bad things..he is a flawed person.

but lets not put something on him that he is not. terrorist

yes dawood etc can be called terroist..but not sanjay dutt.

anyway

I am struggling with the same dilemma...I have always watched Hirani's movies FDFS (except munnabhai mbbs) and now this one has Ranbir too who's acting I absolutely love, but still not able to make up my mind about watching it...Really disappointed in Hirani!

What about a mystery thriller. A powerful person's wife doubts her man's affair with a Pakistani woman whom she suspects as a spy. She tweets, she would expose everything. But the tweet gets deleted. She is suddenly found dead. Can't a movie be made on Taroor's life?

Another thriller. State police receive information that life of their chief minister is under danger. They foil the plan by taking short cut and finishing the conspirators illegally.
Centre government and some media people cry over the death of innocent people. But never state clearly why a married man and a girl who is not related to him were found in another state.

Daughter of a powerful family gets married to a common man. All his family people meet unnatural deaths. The couple learn the art of not ruling the government, but still looting.

Movie on Modi has less thrilling incidents than Taroor, Chidambaram and Priyanka Gandhi.

its not Ranbir fans or others every fandom is like this, they can go any extent to bash others and go any extent to defend their fav moka laga to KASAB bhi defend ho jayega 😛

Agree, many directors have taken cinematic liberties. Devdas and Padmavati may have been fictional characters. But Akbar was not. His love towards Jodha was not Amar Prem.
But still that did not affect us, as we had not seen them anyway.

But Sanjay Dutt's case is different. He is the person we all know. His mistakes we all know.

Watching Bhajrangi Bhaijaan is one thing. Watching a movie on Salman which paints him as a victim after accident is another thing (He also had a situation. His girl friend had deserted him. He was drunk. When the accident happened, he was not in his sense. So many people escape. But he was hounded only because he was a celebrity blah blah).

We might like these actor's acting. But that does not mean, we appreciate them as a person.

I totally agree. I usually watch all Hirani films, as almost everyone who watches them recommends them. However, I am in a dilemma when it comes to Sanju. While the direction is being praised to the sky, the whitewashing is being noticed and mentioned by everyone who has watched it.

I read a tweet by a woman who said everything that happened with Sanjay, or rather all the life choices that he made have been blamed on some other character or circumstances. What was the need for Hirani to do this? He could have easily shown Sanjay's mistakes that were made knowingly as they were, and him facing the consequences (debatable, but still), and finally coming out of it all and leading a happy life the way he is now. What was the need to find justifications for each of his actions? By that measure, every single person be it a criminal, terrorist, or a ruthless dictator has his/her own reasons that can be served as justification for his/her actions.

Hirani truly has set a bad precedent, in my opinion .

@HawasKPujari: I take back what I said.. Hirani really did prove how powerful the visual media is!

a person till not proved guilty is innocent...courts till date dont have proofs of him being a terrorist...and audience loves him which is quiet visible in sanju opening numbers. One more thing a movie is a movie and people should watch it as a movie only...sakshi knew dhoni from childhood but wasnt that changed in the movie. Movie isnt complete truth.
