I don't know about Padosan - it depends. On the one hand, it stereotypes South Indians (which I hate 😡) and Mehmood does go over the top with his accent and mannerisms but on the other hand, Kishore Kumar and his drama company comprising Calcuttiya, Banarasi and Lahori 😆- and the dialogues with gems like Sher ka matlab tiger, Khujli wala jhaad, kaise pet ke gas ko mooh se nikala hai 🤣, make it worth a watch.
It's about a lovely maiden (Saira Banu) who has absolutely no interest in studies, but loves music and dance. Mehmood plays her music (and dance) teacher who also cherishes a dream to marry her. In comes the kabab mein haddi in the form of next-door-neighbour Bhola (Sunil Dutt) who's visiting his Mamaji (Om Prakash). Bhola, of course, is also smitten by Bindu, but knows she will only be impressed if he polishes up on his singing, which, of course, he's hopeless at. So he and his guru Vidyadhar (KK) cook up an elaborate scheme where KK sings and he just lip-syncs. 😃 It's fun. Give it a go!
Bandini - wow- I get goosebumps. I watched it years ago, and for a long time used to refer to Nutan as Kalyani, I never knew what her real name was.
Philosophical and artsy movies from the BW era -- hmm, I maybe the wrong person to ask, I haven't watched too many of those. The thing is, those kinda movies then used to be filled with heavy doses of hopelessness and misery, that I cannot stomach. I prefer the ones with a human interest angle, a moral, a message, social commentary. Sujata, Pyaasa, Naya Daur, Seema, Jaagte Raho, Shree 420, Bandini, Phir Subah hogi are just some of them.
Not sure if they're the kind of movies you're looking at.
