Thankyou for the write-up about Barsaat.. I think I'm going to watch it next :)
I started watching Bandani (1963), LB.. I loved the movie and the music in the movie so far(about 1 hour into the movie), even the opening credits had good music 😃

LB, I have been searching for realistic movies from the black and white era, would you suggest any? I looked up on internet which led me to Indian New Wave(on wikipedia), would like a little guidance :)

I don't know about Padosan - it depends. On the one hand, it stereotypes South Indians (which I hate 😡) and Mehmood does go over the top with his accent and mannerisms but on the other hand, Kishore Kumar and his drama company comprising Calcuttiya, Banarasi and Lahori 😆- and the dialogues with gems like Sher ka matlab tiger, Khujli wala jhaad, kaise pet ke gas ko mooh se nikala hai 🤣, make it worth a watch.
It's about a lovely maiden (Saira Banu) who has absolutely no interest in studies, but loves music and dance. Mehmood plays her music (and dance) teacher who also cherishes a dream to marry her. In comes the kabab mein haddi in the form of next-door-neighbour Bhola (Sunil Dutt) who's visiting his Mamaji (Om Prakash). Bhola, of course, is also smitten by Bindu, but knows she will only be impressed if he polishes up on his singing, which, of course, he's hopeless at. So he and his guru Vidyadhar (KK) cook up an elaborate scheme where KK sings and he just lip-syncs. 😃 It's fun. Give it a go!

Bandini - wow- I get goosebumps. I watched it years ago, and for a long time used to refer to Nutan as Kalyani, I never knew what her real name was.

Philosophical and artsy movies from the BW era -- hmm, I maybe the wrong person to ask, I haven't watched too many of those. The thing is, those kinda movies then used to be filled with heavy doses of hopelessness and misery, that I cannot stomach. I prefer the ones with a human interest angle, a moral, a message, social commentary. Sujata, Pyaasa, Naya Daur, Seema, Jaagte Raho, Shree 420, Bandini, Phir Subah hogi are just some of them.

Not sure if they're the kind of movies you're looking at.

I might try Padosan.. 😆 i like good engaging dialogues :)

Nutan is so beautiful LB, I love everything about the movie... especially the dialogue delivery is so good, can't exactly point what is so good about it :)

hmm yes, human interest / social message movies too :D ..I want to watch ones that have an element or a sub-topic of freedom struggle too.. It really varies with my mood/interest LB, I can watch any type as long as it's good(sorry, that doesn't explain much hehe) :p

what are your favorites from the black and white era?? :)

I love this song- Talat is magnificent as always, Salilda's music shines and lyrics by Rajinder Krishan reflect the hero's self-pitying stance. 😛

..feel so soothed when I listen to Talat... God is there 😭

Hmm... there are a lot. Thing is, I'm a lot like you in that my movie watching depends a lot on my mood. A lot of the BW movies I've watched have been because I adore the hero or the heroine - I may have watched the worst Dev Anand, Shammi Kapoor, Dilip Kumar and Raj Kapoor movies in the process.
I like typical pot-boilers too, provided they're executed well. All the movies I've mentioned earlier are some of my favorites.
I like KK movies, they're fun, not all of them though. Chalti ka naam gaadi and Half-ticket, I recently watched Naughty Boy which wasn't too bad.
Dev Anand - Kala Pani, Kala Bazaar, Nau do Gyarah, Jaal (Amazing movie, great performances), Bombay ka Babu (surprising twist)
Dilip Kumar was tragedy king but some of movies are so good - Madhumati, Amar, Azaad, Kohinoor (absolute madcap comedy, Meena Kumari is a revelation!), Naya Daur.
Will post more later, have to go now!😳😃

This song is an anchor for a dying man - her eyes being the reason for him to keep living. Beautiful lyrics by Indeevar with music by Kalyanji- Anandji, poignantly rendered by Kishore Kumar.

Ek dhadkan hai tu dil ke liye
ek jaan hai tu jeene ke liye

wow.. beautiful song LB

Sung by Talat and Shamshad Begum under the baton of Naushad, with lyrics by Shakeel Badayuni, this is just one of many, many songs in this musical of a movie where Nargis plays a role with grey shades. Also one of many songs with Dilip Kumar on the piano 😃.

that Begum voice❤️ :) nice cute little song.
I like how they are constantly looking at each other.

Dilip Kumar again, this time with a tanpura! And Talat again! Listen to the beautiful alaap by him- who says he was good only for straightforward simple tunes? This song is composed by Shankar- Jaikishen, with lyrics by Shailendra.

I love Talat Mahmood, and there are a bunch of songs I love that he's sung, but this one, I daresay, would feature in every top Talat songs list ever. Such exquisite lyrics by Majrooh and a divine tune by SD Burman, so perfectly rendered by Talat in his rich, velvety voice - which girl would not melt at this absolute devotion? The tears in Nutan's eyes are totally justified, though her tears are for a different reason.

Jab talak na ye tere ras ke bhare hoton se mile
yoon hi awara phirega ye teri zulfon ke tale

Wow.. just wow! 👏👏

Talaaat ☺️
His voice is something... I have never heard a singer like him, although so many are beautiful, he has some divine quality.. 😭
