I just don't get the outrage over someone using the word 'Equality' rather than Feminism.

95% of India doesn't know the meaning of Feminism. Feminism for them is -- Female hating men. That's what have been perceived as. And that's how it has been spread by media and other outlets.

Tell me where do you go to learn about Feminism? Is it taught in Text books? Schools? Colleges? No right. Most knowing about Feminism movements have read and made themselves aware. Majority of these are residing in USA or other countries.

Most of the people in India terms it as Equality.

And it doesn't help that we have such dumbs as face of feminism in India. Like Kangana types of women misuse it. If she is the face of feminism.. I am sure people do not want to associate with the term.

Top it all we have people like this forum blasting others for calling themselves "Equalist" and not feminists.

Nobody seems to educate others. Rather.. let's jump the gun and abuse someone for their misconception. As a result make them wary of Feminism even more.

I would say.. if someone has misconception.. Do your part and correct them. Not call them idiot. You are not helping.

I know so many in real life who identify as Equalist. You look at their conduct and you realize.. they are actually feminists in their approach but doesn't want to call themselves as such coz The Word feminism has been so wrongly propagated all throughout these years.

Equalism is an extremely vague term. It is an umbrella term like Egalitarianism that includes equality for everyone irrespective of gender, race, colour, caste, class and sexual orientation.

Feminism reflects the fact that society has historically been male-dominated, and females have always been an oppressed group. It is explicitly calling attention to ongoing injustice.

Equality may sound more reasonable in the abstract, but we don't live in the abstract. That term would ignore a concrete social reality, and fails to show solidarity toward the primary oppressed group.

Sad.
As a cisgender person she should be feminist.
I am staunch feminist why couldn't she be

This Self centred "Ladies First" ploy during Life Crisis has led to many Men losing their lives. Case in point: Titanic

Men's Lives matter too! 😔

Instead of special seats for Women in Public transport, they shud hv Special seats only for Elderly n Disabled persons irrespective of gender. These ladies dont even give their special privileged seats when they see a 85 yrs old man struggling to stand near them in a moving bus!

There shud be Paternity Leaves. Fathers matter too! 😔

Just like there is a Ban on Dowry, there shud be Ban on Alimony. Women shud not feed on Husband's earnings. Just like women are not property. Same way, even Husband is also not Bank ATM. 😔

Here is the way I see things

Egalitarianism/equalism is the end goal for humanity. That all humans be truly treated equally.

Feminism is the process of adjusting the male and female sides to balance the scale and accomplish equality.

Racial justice is the process of adjusting the white and POC sides to balance the scale and accomplish equality.

Economic justice is the process of adjusting the white and POC sides to balance the scale and accomplish equality.

Trans rights is the process of adjusting the cisgender and non binary sides to balance the scale and accomplish equality.

All social justice movements are means to balance the scale and accomplish equality.

You simply cannot be an advocate for equality and reject feminism or any of the social justice movements. You cannot balance the scales for equity without these.
