Mumbai: Actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, who will soon be seen in Veere Di Wedding, says she is not a feminist and believes in equality.

Kareena, along with co-actors Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhasker and Shikha Talsania, director Shashanka Ghosh and producers Rhea Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor, were at the "Veere Di Wedding" music launch here on Tuesday.

Asked about the idea of feminism, Kareena said: "I believe in equality. I wouldn't say I am a feminist, I would say I am a woman and above all, I am a human being. I am also as proud to be known as Saif Ali Khan's wife, as I am to be Kareena Kapoor. So that is just the way I am."

Veere Di Wedding is a female buddy film about four girls living in an urban setting and their struggles in life.

Kareena has always been vocal about her personal life, but in this film, she's playing a character which is commitment phobic.

Asked about her role selection criteria, she said: "I think what made me take up this part is that for me, as a commercial mainstream actor who is always used to work with mainstream actors, be it Shah Rukh Khan or Salman Khan... For me, it was very different to be part of a film with four girls.

"I think the story is something I got completely obsessed by and I thought it was really cool. And I think who better than this entire team to put this film together. I think this was the reason I wanted to do 'Veere Di Wedding'. As far as my character Kalindi is concerned, I think she is really cool and there is a reason why she is commitment phobic, which will be seen in the film."

Kareena is known for working with A-list actors in Bollywood, but this time she is paired with Sumeet Vyas.

On this, she quipped: "I think I have chosen A-Lister heroine this time."

Sharing her funniest memories from the film's set, the actress said: "I think it would be throwing Sumeet Vyas off the moon in the film. That was quite funny because I have never done that in my career. I never had the opportunity to throw a hero off from a moon. So thank you everyone, for giving me this chance, I am sure it will go down in history."

The film will release on June 1, 2018.

Even Katrina Kaif herself in an old interview stated she wasn't a feminist, but she explained in depth that she believed in equality that women should get the same opportunities that men gets? I was like *facepalm*

Movie is coming, and I think it's not upto the mark, so time to give W*F statements trend. Kareena is just following that. Few months ago she was saying that women are superior to men. Now she believes in equality, and still not a feminist.
I can never believe that these celebs don't know the meaning of feminism. Feminism is seen as something bad mostly by people who live in backward class, and since most of those people are fans or fanatics of these celebrities, they don't want to be labeled as feminists.

And I was just praising her answers to Anupama's, before...
She might be struggling with expressing her views..or could be that she is afraid to show any negative side..or whatever..and tries to keep a 'middle of the road' approach.
But then this approach sometimes backfires.

Problem is people mistake feminism with radical feminism.

I think the word feminist has lost its meaning because of people mistaking feminism with pedantic kind of feminism or misandry, hence don't want to associate with.

People believe feminists are like below:

Obviously above video is an exaggerated comedy, but you get an idea.
Like I remember once I commented in fb "we should not restrict women to houses, and they should have all the freedom", and someone responded something like "why are you saying 'we should', who are you to allow or deny a woman, god sexism is so deep rooted with man, they don't know they have no right to say they should".I asked that lady, than how should I have worded it, and she was like "don't comment on woman rights, you man don't have any right in this matter".

Because of these kind of fanatic behavior, people who generally don't understand the face value meaning of feminist, don't want to associate themselves with the word feminist.
But I think people like Katrina and Kareena, who are such huge stars and obviously are fluent in English should enlightened people about the actual meaning of feminism rather than trying to escape it because of what people perceive about the word.

She said to Vogue India she is not OVERTLY feminist. There is a huge difference between saying I'm not a feminist and I'm not overtly feminist. So this one is for you ---> *facepalm* since you are a fan of kat still misleading others.

If you don't know what overtly means

Overtly
(adverb)

openly; publicly.

Nothing new. I have seen her saying this since my school days. After all these years you would expect she'll learn the true meaning of feminism. Saw Rhea correcting her indirectly but not sure if she registered it.
