Nah! I didn't like the ended. :(

I was only rooting for Sameer-Nandini because that's how the story started. And it's not like Sameer left Nandini on purpose or he cheated on her.

SLB wanted to justify Pati-Patni relationship. Urgh. Felt so bad Sameer, he was left out alone. 😭

Bleh!!! The movie was stupid. Nandini was crying for Sameer in the whole movie and in the end she chosing Vanraaj over him never convinced me. Yeah yeah... I know... Vanraaj was the better guy, he made all the sacrifices for Nandini, while Sameer was an immature hack, who left Nandini over a freaking guru dakshina. But that's not the point. The question is whom Nandini really loved?? If she never loved Sameer, and it was just a crush, then why was she doing all the drama when Sameer left, and also after the marriage?? When Sameer left Nandini to keep his promise which he made to her father, she should've just said," you chose your goddamn promise over me?,...fine!!!'go to hell!!!! I also don't care"
But Nandini doing all the nautanki when her affair with Sameer was revealed, made the audience believe that she really loves him.
Nandini was such a confused character. Also I was never convinced that Nandini actually fell in love with Vanraaj. She just saw that Vanraaj is a great guy who truly loves and cares for her. She chose a better husband, but was she really in love with him, or was she had respect for him? I think it was the latter.

Well, Nandini chosing her boyfriend over her husband would've never worked with the 90s audience, as saat-phere, mangalsutra, sindoor are more important than anything in our country. I think that too affected the script of the movie.

I think Nandini chose Vanraj because she had made a commitment to him. When she saw how he kept his promise and came to find her love with her, she realised that marriage is about commitment more than love. I think that is what she said too. That's what I have always taken it as. It is about just standing by each other no matter what and that if she didn't stop the marriage itself when she could, then might as well stand by it now. Not everybody follows their heart, some people live by principles. She decided it isn't right to leave one for another and that it just wasn't meant to be.

I don't think Sameer was wrong to leave India for his promise either. For some people, their word or promise matters a lot. They don't take it lightly and it is a matter of honour for them. So that's what it was. If anything, for me that is what made him a worthy opponent to Vanraj. Like someone said here, Vanraj just got those opportunities to show his caring and mature side, his values. Sameer might have done the same or better if given a chance. He wasn't a man child, at least according to me. I think it comes across like that because of his fun demeanour and Ajay seems mature because he was so quiet and brooding. But that's just judging the book by its cover.

There's a similar 80s movie " Woh Saat Din" with same ending. Its a better movie, no glamorus locations or stars

It's a south remake

I've seen that one. I liked it. Naseeruddin's acting was pretty on point. But I liked Hum dil de.. better because of the cast, the chemistry between Ash-Salman and the music and the whole fee of the movie. SLB made it into something else.

The take-home message was: your lover and husband doesn't necessarily need to be the same 😆 choose your husband wisely who could afford your trips to Europe so that you could meet your ex 😉

This! Here I was feeling all sad for Salman as I could already see that Nandini was going to go back to Vanraaj and there Sameer starts his crying gig which made me wonder if I should continue to be sad for Sameer or just lol at Salman's fake crying...😆

OT: I was a kid when I watched the movie and just couldn't get over how Sameer was given such a raw deal...I hated and still hate Nandini's father...He is the whole root cause of the problem...😡😆..Also I don't know if it is so easy for anybody to change their mind...Yes Vanraaj did all that for her but so would Sameer...Because Sameer is just as good a guy as Vanraaj...Nandini was not just a confused soul but also lacked courage to go against the social norms and hence settled with the guy her dad chose for her in the end!

Basically what I mean to say is that that there is no absolute right or wrong thing to do in such a situation (social norms not withstanding)..Its each to their own!

^^He was most definitely incredible husband
Material & didn't try to change her or bend her to his will. And did all this with a genuineness that is so lacking in today's actors!! Devgn played him
Spot-on! His actions were saintly but he never once played Vanraaj like that because that wouldn't be believable. I don't even like marriage & I almost wanted to shout at her for putting him through all this torture. The only understandable character here was V which was interesting for me because i don't like seeing really nice/saintly characters in films & books, I want to see darkness, sex & black, lol. But it's a testament to Devgn's excellent talent that he made me root for him.
