A few years back a telugu actress was exposed for luring young girls into prostitution by promising them roles. Not that we can pretend that stuff like this does not exist at all. Simple question, if women of bollywood are powerful enough to hold placards against the ruling govt what makes them so powerless when it comes to raising voice against the people from their own industry who indulge in all of this.

Like if you go to government organizations to get work done, then bribe is the only way... ITs not like we love to give bribe, but when there is no way forward, then what do the person do ??

for e.g few years back, we sought to get an individual water connection, that time we get to know that the only way is to hire a plumber, give him money around 30-40 thousands rupees, so he can bribe all the higher authorities and get the permission. On asking around for a legal way, we got to know that the legal route is never used and people who use, wait for their approvals for at least 1-2 years.

Same way when Producers, casting agents dont leave any other way, then what wud the actresses do ??

disclaimer : Not approving casting couch or saroj khan's statement. Just curiously wondering how people in power dont give any other way out.

Exactly, i think ppl here are simplifying a much more complex issue... Its easy to pass judgment on others...

Lets say if our chosen profession was such - to become a lawyer, doctor, banker etc, you are not dependent on some exam but the whims of a powerful person... How long will you struggle before dejection kills your spirit

There was a blind abt how girls from small towns come and struggle to get roles in tv.. They have barely enough to eat,... And finally (allegedly) dolly bindra takes them in, pretending to be a supportive senior and finally pushes them into prostitution...

I know alot of ppl are cool with sleeping for a role but many also give in out of sheer desperation...

Harry weinsten - if you read the stories, there are all kinds of ppl - some he harassed, some he assaulted, some he raped, some he humiliated... And it became so normal that any newcomer assumed that this was the only way to get roles...

It is the people who demand such favors for roles who are the real scum... Also those who pretend to first be friends and mentor and slowly push people into this muck..

.. And not to forget that the entry age for showbiz is really young... Just because you are legally an adult, it does not mean you cannot be emotionally manipulated and groomed into thinking this is ok esp when you are away from home

Its supply and demand scenerio.
If each and every individual says NO to sexual favours men and women both then supply hi khatam ho jayegi and demand bhi over.
It exists because of people who are willingly or unwillingly agreeing to this.
Like anjs explained without corruption a government task can take up to 2 years but thoda bribe and its done in a day. So jab tak short cut wale people exist tab tak exploitation hoga.

I've also heard two "D.M" one a madame, and the other a john and both ex actors, are running a quite a reputable and lucrative prostitution business and are basically the "go to" people for all the strugglers in town.

Why only BW? I've been propositioned in order to get internships also. I took the patli gali and ran. Anywhere there are immoral people who feel they can get away with it, they'll try it.

In BW it's far more prevalent obviously where the industry is small and same people try out for the few films that get made.
