Saroj Khan on casting couch: It provides livelihood at least, doesn't rape and leave you

Veteran choreographer Saroj Khan has made a lot of top celebs dance to her tunes but her recent [ignorant] statement on casting couch has landed her in trouble. Saroj Khan while speaking on a TV channel regarding the casting couch issue said that blaming the film industry alone for this is unfair and that at least the industry provides livelihood despite all the perils and doesn't just rape and leave them.

She said, "Should I say something? this is going on from 'baba Adam's times', it is not new. Someone or the other always try to take an advantage of a girl. The government does it too, then why are we only behind the film industry? It provides livelihood at least. Does not rape and leave you. It is up to the girl, what she wants to do. If you don't want to fall into wrong hands, you won't. If you have art, why would you sell yourself? Don't take the film industry's name, it is everything to us."

Casting couch is not new to Bollywood. In fact, the number of exposures in Hollywood related to the casting couch and sexual harassment in return for favour has been alarming. The debate kickstarted post the Harvey Weinstein case came to light leading to many leading ladies in Hollywood opening up about their experiences.

The incidence resulted in the #MeToo campaign which allows women to open up and seek justice. The movement has turned global with many Bollywood actors coming forward in its support.

So basically she is saying if you are talented you wont become a victim of casting couch. Those who do indulge in casting couch are ones without talent. But casting couch is good for them as its with consent and provides livelihood. In other words casting couch is equal to prostitution.

With such attitudes about casting couch within the industry no wonder they see nothing wrong with it.

Wow ! It's sad to have such a mindset.

Taking advantage of someone else's weakness is never right. And how does she know their is no rape in this ?

Someone might agree for something but not for another and be forced to do it anyways...

Yeh chala aa raha hai Baba azam ke zamaane se. Har ladki ke upar koi na koi haath saaf karne ki koshish karta hai. Govt ke log bhi karte hain. Tum film industry ke peeche kyun pade ho? Woh kam se kam roti toh deti hai. Rape karke chhod toh nahi deti: Saroj Khan on Casting Couch.

This is the right opportunity to highlight another segment that barely gets noticed: TV megaserial industry. A role in these serials is virtually a safe job for years. If there is so much exploitation for one movie (hit or miss in terms of money), imagine what goes on in TVs!!

Saroj Khan is now trending on Twitter. One should see the comments. Most people are saying Saroj Khan made it clear BW is nothing but a sophisticated prostitution racket. And as expected many have now started mocking those who protested the Kathua rape and murder by indirectly calling them prostitutes.

BW is its own worst enemy. No respect for themselves. No spine to stand up for what's right, for each other and for their own rights. Always closing its eyes to problems within itself. No wonder its one of the most disrespected industry within the country among the common public though its on the forefront of India's soft power across the world.

Casting Couch is not just related to women but guys too...all the hot male models who wants a break into bollywood go through sexual favours..this is how it is..this is dirty linen which is washed and saroj khan has confessed to it. after all everyone wants to make big in bollywood right..what a poor mindset indeed

Saroj khan had her first kid the same way itseems. The father was a dancer director who made her his mistress after she got pregnant with.his kid. Later he even had a second kid with her.

no wonder she is justifying casting couch now because she never felt exploited though shw was. She sees that as stable income!

What she said IS the Bitter Truth. Nobody can exploit u without ur consent. U need not pay bribe just bcoz u are asked. Nor u shud take bribe just bcoz someone is offering u.

If ALL women/men dont pay Bribes when asked and dont offer Bribes to get Roles, Industry wud get cleaned. But, some people want the easy route.

Opportunists on both sides is responsible for this mess.

According to me, Victims are only those persons who refused to do so and hence missed out on the roles. Not those like Sri Reddy who readily did everything to get roles but plays victim when the deal broke. Had she landed a big role, she wud hv shut her mouth.People like her who sleep around for roles botch the chances of other self respecting actresses who was relying only on their Talent.
