Why Emraan Hashmi didn't become a Superstar?

He was doing great till 2012, with back-to-back successful films. I remember people were calling him the next Superstar along with Ranbir. It's surprising that he is almost irrelevant now.

Emraan Hasmi's image itself dragged him down. The same sexy image made him popular but that same pulled him down too. For some time it was good and different that he would kiss and do sex scenes but after a while that novelty factor was off and it became boring and routine. Emraan should have sensed that made attempt to move out but he didnt. For any actor to be sustain over a period of time has to appeal to mass audience and not just adults or sex starved audience.

I was surprised in the first place that he got any stardom at all. I used to always think that actors who go after easy popularity because of sex scenes and kissing can never make it big. But Emraan was well-liked and had a fan following of sorts and I used to never understand why. That is until I saw some of his movies. His appeal is not just that he kisses onscreen or does bold scenes but his style and charm. He is an okay actor too. But that could only take him so far. I don't think he's become irrelevant. He's just going through a slow phase. He can pick up and do more movies cuz he might not be the so called superstar but he has made his own place in BW.

There was a time when Emraan was a Bigger star than whatever RK, RS, Varun are today. Now I don't want to see stupid box office stats for saying this.The thing is that Emraan always worked in B-grade films, not any big banners or popular heroines with negligible promotions, but still managed to get a huge fan-following among the masses. He even has three popular franchises under his name, which no other actor in Bollywood has.

One can say that his movies only worked because of sex scenes and good music. But then Bhatt camp has other Non-Emraan Hashmi movies with great songs and awesome music. Not all actors doing sex scenes become popular like Emraan, and not all movies with great music become successful.

He is not a bad actor either. Infact, he's very underrated. Also he has a very delightful charm and strong screen presence, which is needed to become a Superstar. Though there are not alot of movies to show his great acting skills. Maybe that is the reason people always saw him only as a serial kisser, and weren't able to accept him in Non-A-rated films, which was needed to grow his fanbase.

Or the reason is something else for why he didn't become a Superstar?? What do you guys think??

I never really liked his movies for being overly sexual.

And he is brash and brutal and does not go after directors and producers.
