Maybe because Kajol left in her prime? If she had gone ahead with the momentum and gained with DDLJ, KKHH etc she might have had it different

Madhuri had the beauty, dancing skills and individual dance numbers that were hits that people remembered more than the movies.

Kajol was never into style or fitness then, she had the infamous unibrow and was known more as a pair hit jodi.

However Kajol is more enduringly famous.

I remember shekhar gupta walk the talk interview with kajol on NDTV

He specifically told only you and Madhuri have a die hard fan base even after so many years of work experience.

Kajol is popular and star and big box office numbers

But Madhuri is a cult...people want to be like her.

even till today many fans say madhuri as their fav actress , not other hit stars like juhi ,karishma, Tabu.

even deepika , priyanka chopra fans would take madhuri's name before and take their current fav actress name at second slot.

and rightly said by a TM that yes madhuri is not working that much now but her work over the years is still running fabulously

many 90's movies have been stopped being aired

But hum aapke hain kaun, saajan, Dil, Devdas, Dil to pagal hai, Beta enjoy huge ratings on TV. Saajan released in 1990 but still has a big fan base. Few days back Tiger Zinda hai released but people forgot it

even strong films like mary kom, queen are forgotten but madhuri dixit performance is unforgettable

when she was around 20 she did sailaab. just watch the climax scene ...where the villain is chasing to kill her. Her fear her nervousness , her anxiety ...it was captured and shot so well that all filmakers during the screening of sailaab gave her a standing ovation for her acting at such an young age .she was just awesome , She doesnt need to do dabaang type of movies ...her old movies can do better if released in todays times too

Well for a female super star the actress needs to cater to the male fantasy which Madhuri could and Kajol could not. Madhuri's looks, gestures/ expressions and dance movements that made way into the male fantasy. Kajol does not have kind of looks or expressions nor dance nos. This is what would want a male to buy the ticket for the movie.

MAdhuri had euphoria wherever she went crowds of people would come to her watch her naach gaana girls wanted to dance like her be like her, the stardom is about the euphoria you create not really about box office numbers as much Madhuri left that mark, doesn't make Kajol any less Kajol has her own chart, like Aamir does the huge box office numbers so both are unique in their own way its just Madhuri has the "conventional" appeal thats all
