I don't like Akki- Tina's ways of promoting things.
Tina posted a pic of man defecating on beach for Toilet and now this Pad-selfie. I am not convinced that it will create any awareness.

They should have challenged celebs to go and distribute packs of sanitary pads to some areas and then post pics doing this.

Just pulling out a pad and posting it on twitter has no value except photo op

It's a pad. Not as if it's soaking in period blood.
There are some things we need to be open about. It is natural. It is human. Tomorrow if there is a contraceptive challenge, I'd be down for it.

You speak of underwear - I think I'd be Ok with an adult diaper challenge. Incontinence hits people at different ages with different diseases. No shame in that either.

@Bold: That's a very good idea! People went all out dumping cold water on themselves to support a cause, so why not this?

A lot of these celebs seem to do these things so they can pat each other on the back when it is not really ground breaking what they are doing.

Considering how much money they earn you would think buying a crate of pads and donating them would be much more effective.

The pad is not wasted. It is still usable. Not all pads come in individual sleeves. Many organic pads are just a stack of pads with a liner between them. As long as you don't damage the adhesive backing. Also back in the day there were no adhesive backings. You had to clench your thighs and pray for stay put protection. Or there were elaborate tying mechanisms.

And even if they damage the adhesive backing. They can still use it for cleaning. Pads make great cleaning wipes just like tampons are great for nosebleeds.

- Did I say pad is disgusting? What reluctance? What the heck is going on here. Who am I dealing with here?

I said this campaign is disgusting. Dont twist my topic. I am not 10 IQ lukkha who does not know what he is saying. lol. I only said what is the need to do this campaign and make a joke of the issue with people posing with the pad. Stop forcing and mixing ur issues into my post.

- I give a damn about this movie. I am not part of some campaign. I just saw people posting with pad and I did not like it. Who the heck is Taimur..

- normalize pads? is this the way to do it?

- yes this is for promoting movie..all these awareness suddenly comes into picture when there is a movie..

- who the heck said mensturation id disgusting? people are too much here..forcing their bhadas on me.

- stop being mamma of regression and progression

- @tanvi. thank you

- its no initiative..its means to sell the movie. i hate fake campaigns ...

- @ RR. thank you

- I see no need..there is no need to be open about every issue..there can be targeted campaigns as well..the concept that we being open is always good is a wrong concept..its fine if there are things which are catered to targeted audience..u made a movie..raised some point..good. now no need to force people to post a pic with a pad ..oh there is a taboo.. i mean the mindset is nonsense. flawed.

In conclusion, my basic issue with this new mindset that bring everything in open because being open means progression and in that going extreme and forcing men to post pic with a pad...its not their business..no one is demeaning women on this issue...i dont see it as a taboo...and being totally open is no solution either..u r not serious about the issue ..u want to promote movie and make money

in one year u will be promoting next movie ...drama. lol

i just hate such fakeness

but its my view. u guys can think what u want. but dont assume on my part. i am not some regressive idiot. i just did not find it honest and thought its not needed. and wrong way to approach the issue

Instead of opening a pad and taking a photo with it, the challenge should have been giving a packet to someone who needs it and can't afford it. And maybe a photo with that girl.

A girl who comes from a household who can't afford pads will be too embarrassed to take a pic with the pads in all probability...the idea is to make everyone comfortable with the use of pads then talk about taking pics and this is exactly what this campaign is about..

Here at my work in US...women sneak pads into the restroom when they have to change...no one dangles it in front of everyone...not only in India...but almost everywhere...women don't feel comfortable talking about pads or taking it out openly of their bags to take to the restroom...just last week one of my friends who got her periods before time...came to me and whispered if I had an extra pad...i gave it to her and she put it in her jacket pocket and hid it...so yeah women are still very hesitant about it...easier said than done.

Not just the pads..I have seen men drying their under garments in open but women(yes, me included)trying to hide them and be embarrassed about even drying them in open...Yes, easier said than done...
