I agree with you which is why Padmavati telling Ratan that she could not commit Jauhar without his permission rankles

A classic case of misplaced anger, Ms Swara, its coming across as attention seeking or behti ganga mei haath dhona. All your organ focused rant exists more in your mind than the women of India. Padmavat is not meant for inspiration, its a movie depiction the historically debatable Queen Padmavati and her jauhar. If you want to look for inspiration then look at BSF women bikers squad, Navika Sagar Parikrama, Avani Chaturvedi, Bhawana Kanth and Mohana Singh who are going to fly the military aircrafts, women managing Matunga railway station, women driving buses, autos, trains, women entrepreneurs, lawyers etc. Look there Swara😳 and not SLB and his fictional movie. If women in those times chose to sacrifice their lives rather than live the horrific life of a sex slave then they made a choice their body their life. Ever thought that perhaps they didnt want to live the daily horrors of sex slave and the innumerable ordeals they and their children would be subjected to. It require huge amount of courage and strength to burn alive, of course must be excruciatingly painful. You are NO one to pass your judgment on them esp when you dont even have an iota of idea of the horrors of those times and when you are so obsessed with irrational focus on vagina🤢.

now she is seeking attention...There is no need of mention of Vagina so many times...just OTT. This is a period movie and what she is expecting? To fight back and get raped anyway and become a slave? i thinks its Padmavati choice to die rather then to be tortured.

This from 13th century poet why some of these women are equating with today times. The times and people mentality were different. The only thing SLB could have shown that Jauhar scene without the pomp and should have not glorified mass suicide.

Well .. there is a difference between a sick thing like rape and a much sicker thing like sex slave for the rest of your life. I agree with Swara that if a woman is raped by some bas***d, does not means that she should not be able to live the rest of her life. But at the same time, if you knew that there might not be any light at the end of the tunnel and you would end up being someone's sex slave for the rest of your life, then the only choice you have is either to kill that person or die yourself. Agreed that killing that person is actually the right and the brave choice. But maybe that queen knew that she was in no position to fight with the beast. And hence, the last option of jauhar. But yes, it could have been shown with the sign of sympathy for the weak instead of making it sound like something brave. For example, if she would have died while trying to kill Khilji, I would have considered her brave but since, she just gave up her life without a fight, I don't see any bravery in that.

And there's a fleeting scene of another enslaved princess who stood bravely in front of Khilji while he boasted about his Harem. She chose to live and endure it all while the other women decided to kill themselves instead of the torture. In my opinion, both set of women were brave and made their own choices. We have no right to put down any of them just because we think from the so called modern perspective.
Don't we loathe it when men dictate the terms to us? Then why are these convenient feminists of Bollywood telling women how to conduct themselves in such monsterous situations? I am all for feminism but this is not it.

The story of Padmavati was based in the times when practices like Jauhar DID happen. It's not bloody glorifying it - it's showing what used to happen in the 13th century!! In today's times, unless you're messed up in the mind, you're not going to suddenly go 'oh I'm going to jump in fire after my husband dies' just because Padmaavat showed it. Come on!!

Fact is, Swara would NEVER have written this if it was her dear Sonam in the movie. The envy is so obvious. Deepika is at a place where Sonam couldn't even dream about anymore.

"No, sir; Rajasthan in the 13th century with its cruel practices is merely the historical setting of the ballad you have adapted into the film Padmaavat. The context of your film is India in the 21st century."

^^Fhat the whack. Like regardless of your impression of the story or the film or even the lens at which you look at it from, saying that is a bit ludicrous and prevents me from taking Ms. Bhaskar seriously.

And then a bunch of "vagina...vagina...vagina..."
