In the 90's he was a pain in the ass to work with for directors and his co-actors due to his constant 'suggestions' and millions of takes. Today that very thing 'defines' AK where his suggestions are considered Gold and his million tales have earned him the nickname 'Perfectionist'. The way success changes perceptions.
Great Mind, an overrated actor but he can outwork anyone.

He has always been controlling about things. It is who he is. I don't love it, but he is a controlling person who obsesses over details and wants to supervise everything himself. I feel it has been a good thing for him because he has got the right ideas to include and his perceptions about films are usually correct. I don't think he's overrated at all, he is fairly rated (or, underrated if you really ask me lol). He doesn't overact, he reacts exactly like he should and I love his charming urban roles and comic timing. His acting has a meticulous and worked upon quality about it that I love. Yes, he works hard for his roles and is very methodical about it. I think that's his best quality. It's not an unpopular opinion at all on this forum lol. Aamir's acting is an acquired taste for some, I thankfully acquired it from the minute I saw him in Sarfarosh. I also think SRK is supremely overrated as an actor but that's personal prerogative I suppose. But yes, to return to the discussion, I feel like acting is such a subjective thing. So all opinions are more or less valid on it.

Yes and it was a very good performance for a newcomer that he was then. The story was very nicely told and he put up a sincere performance even against other stalwarts in the movie, this and 1947 Earth especially are hugely underrated performance of AK

I have never found a good print of this movie...this movie was a showcase of young Aamir's acting talent...he was very talented from young age...a very raw performance from him...the best scenes were the one where he shoots a guy in theatre and the other one where he breaksdown after killing a person for the first time in front of Pankaj ...He was brilliant...

Best scene in Raakh was when he shots a guy in theater...Aamir was brilliant. It was Ketan mehta movie IIRC.

after Raakh he signed some duds...but he learnt from his mistakes and look where he is now...😊

Raakh was completed before QSQT's release, technically it would have been his first film had it not been postponed...No it was directed by Aditya Bhattacharya, grandson of legendary director Bimal Roy...During Aamir's days in theatre he had acted in a short silent movie Paranoia which was directed by Aditya before...that scene was fab...

lol those days the industry was not as organised as it is today and don't find it wrong with suggestions from any actors...phenkna hai toh aise phenk ki believable ho..if an actor gives millions of takes then it would minimum take 5 years to complete one film...and who doesn't give retakes, even the legendary Naseerudin Shah struggled for a very simple scene in Mandi and had to give many retakes...hardly any directors had any problem with him except Mahesh Bhatt...rest of them have all praised him...even for good movies u have to act well right...

Yes, his emotional scenes were still jerky and stilted but it was a really earnest performance. 1947 Earth is his top five if you ask me. He NEEDS to work with Deepa again. I'd kill for it.

I have got a DVD of it but it's not available online in a good print I think. Pankaj and him played it off so well against each other. For a sophomore, it's legit such an earnest performance. Wish he'd do something really dark sometime soon. You'd notice that his emotional scenes are still jerky and unpolished but the talent is already so obvious and raw. It's really a good performance and I keep hoping Aamir will do darker, lyrical stuff like that sometime again.

this is not an unpopular opinion. In fact many people did accused aamir for being too mechanical onscreen.aamir is a good actor no doubt but i have found him forced and laboured onscreen. i have never liked aamir's performances in his popular movies. he was brilliant in sarfarosh and dhobi ghat.

Baazi,Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke,Akele Hum Akele Tum,Ghulam,Mann are some of his underappreciated work.I personally loved these movies and he was bloody brilliant especially in Baazi and Mann.In the minority here but i enjoy watching his earlier movies more,i don't know if it's the nostalgia factor?!
