A few of my friends were debating about Anil Kapoor's stardom during 80s and 90s, some felt he was just a regular successful actor like Akshay, Ajay while a few felt he was a big superstar of his time, so I thought why not ask the reliable folks on bollywood forums. So let's discuss how successful was Anil Kapoor as a leading actor when compared to the successful actors of today??

No. Just some sasta actor who was used as a filler when producers cannot afford any big stars. Amitabh, Vinod Khanna, Dharmendra, Jeetender were still going strong in 80s then it was Govinda and the Khans

He was before my time but I don't know.. He might have been a superstar just not of the level of the likes of Dharmendra, AB and Khans

That Tappori Slang had Housefull Seetiyaan in the hall... TEZAAB was rage in that year...

When Karma came, it became huge hit, in that megastars films, Anil made such a rocking impression, youngest yet impressive.

His bro-pairing with Jackie is highlight to watch - Parinda, Ram Lakhan, Karma, Kala Bazaar, & who can forget the Biggest HYPED film - Roop ki Rani, Choron ka Raja.

Roop ki rani's & Trimurti's failure Dented badly Anil's career... his films started failing regularly after that... few hits he could manage like Laadla. Judaai. Deewana Mastana, No Entry, Biwi No.1... now like Race Series, Welcome Series...

But he ruled for a short time compared to the others
His contemporaries and juniors over took him soon enough
But he was a bankable actor

All I know Anil was really big but he thought he is same as Bachhan in stardom and it started his downfall and Roop ki rani chor ka raja sealed his fate..It was a very expensive film and was a disaster... and then He couldn't keep his pace after the arrival of Khans
