Mental disorder/challenge is a blanket term for behavioral or intellectual disorders that can inhibit quality and function in life. Both the DSM and the ICD classify Autism as a mental disorder. It is quite a large list ranging from something as common as depression, alcoholism, and stuttering to more complex and rare like schizophrenia and multiple personality disorder.
However, in recent times there has been a change in social perception towards mental health challenges. Mentally retarded or even challenged have been deemed politically incorrect. Also, many of these disorders have people who are high functioning or with high intellect, rendering many archaic stereotypes incorrect and invalid.

So the TM is not technically incorrect in classifying it in mental illnesses. The topic though is in poor taste and lacks understanding in the nuances and intricacies of mental health. It is one thing to be a medical professional and classify illnesses for taxonomy, but it is a completely different thing to generalize people based on ill-formed stereotypes.

Although, to cut people slack I think the intent was to judge actors. Hopefully, people learn and will be more sensitive towards mental health issues in the future.

It is one thing to be a medical professional and it is another thing to sit around in the comfort of ones own homes and talk about these disorders and look at them through some petty half baked acting of some actor, but trust me, it is totally another thing to actually live them and also be subjected to insensitiveness from people...

I don't expect people to be all aware of every disorder out there, but in this age of internet a little bit of at least attempting to educate oneself before talking about it is the least one can do...A little bit of sensitiveness goes a long way!
