I think its the 100 crore obsession. Directors/writers crave the 100 crores so much that they write a script in 5-7 days and expect it to make a lot of money. these people put less work in and expect more out of it. most of these people seem like they would rather party, take a vacation to a spa, gossip 24/7 or wait for the rival to fall than passionately care about their job... which is why i think a first time director generally does a better job with his first release than his subsequent releases, because he doesn't got caught up in the BW ways ala partying, gossiping, bitching etc. few directors seem passionate such as hirani, ROM, kabir khan (i really like his humility he seems unharmed by the BW clan). apparently rohit shetty works like a machine, not sure how true is that, but i give credit to him for that.

It's not because you've grown up. Look at the current young generation - even they're not crazy about today's movies. Something is for Sure off

Because of social media there is over exposure, over promotions hence the product underwhelms. Also the mystic aura around the stars is gone hence there is no ott craze. It's true for almost all the industries be it Hollywood, Bollywood. . Telugu and tamil fans are still in awe of their stars even that will wane off soon.

Same with HW movies too
I don't know how to say this, even the film (or reel?) seems dull and of cheap quality, they look worse than made for TV movies which are sometimes more enjoyable

I think movies have lost their mojo

Dispassionately speaking, I think in terms of content and subject matter, BW has improved. Look at the amount of indies they make and the subject matter they tackle.
I think we tend to look at our childhood films with nostalgia because we have memories associated with them, usually good family memories or we have danced to their songs. Also movie going was an event, a family outing or something we dressed up for and went out. We only saw the songs in the theater. I don't even remember if we saw trailers of other movies before the movie we went to see. There was a sense of wonder and mystery. We discovered the movie as we were watching it. It was a visual experience for 2 or 3 hours. And we were not bombarded 24/7 by other stimulants.

Now we get the songs blasted on the radio or web weeks or even months before, we see the trailer many times, we know the story mostly so what is remaining ? We are lucky if it is half the experience. I think that's what makes it meh. We are constantly bombarded and we carry with us little devices that entertain us all the time and on demand. Why will a movie be special ?

I think it's just nostalgia and nothing else. Even I used to enjoy movies more in my childhood but when I look back, I think the movies made in 90s and 00s were nothing great. I still like to watch some of the old movies like MHN, but I can understand that it's just nostalgia and the movies are not really that good. Infact, 90s and 00s were pretty bad years for Indian Cinema in terms of content.

I agree with people who say that Hindi movies have improved dramatically in terms of content, but the problem with that is films these days tend to be too preachy to get a certain message across. I wish we could get films that have the best of both worlds with the quintessential Bollywood larger than life dance numbers as well as delivering an underlying social message without being excessively preachy!

That's what is making films feel so dull these days, imo
