No poor person grows up in Malabar Hill. KJo did. His dad didn't make big money through films but invested wisely in real estate. Having not so rich relatives doesn't make him poor. And SRK's mom was a close friend of Indira Gandhi. He grew up Upper Middle Class. He met Gauri at one of the upscale clubs in Delhi ( Gauri's dad was an Army officer). Losing parents at a young age was definitely a struggle.

Haven't really read much of what is posted here but with regards to Shahrukh , he has stated on record that his parents gave him a wonderful education. The guy has gone to some of the best schools and colleges in Delhi man. His mother was a magistrate in Delhi but from whatever is out there , it doesn't seem like his father was successful when it came to his career. If I'm not wrong his father at one point was running the NSD canteen in Delhi. His father was the youngest freedom fighter which is how they knew the Gandhis. His mother came from a very well off family and anyone who has seen the episode of Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai would know he had a bunch of friends that were financially very well off as compared to him so him meeting Gauri at one of the parties shouldn't surprise anyone since his circle of friends , well most of them from whatever is out there were quite well off financially.

Zaroon: Exactly. SRK's came from well to do families, one friend in particular, came from a successful business family & used to have a fleet of cars & SRK even said "he used to finance our gang". It's a fact that he was at max middle-class, lol, which I doubt too, but it's fine. Everyone believes what they want to. I too believe he was anything but well-off/well-to-do. Gauri did come from a really well-to-do family & I don't think it was because her Dad was a Colonel (LOL) I think her family was into some business or something.. But she definitely came from a much better family than SRK'S & apart from him being of a different religion, the sub-text seems like this was a huge issue too & the fact that he wanted to shift to Bombay to pursue a film career which is immensely tough & no-one believed he would ever make it. Look now. :)

^^Ya makes sense. A lot goes off in rent/travel/cars/entertainment in cities like Delhi, B'bay, B'lore etc. You're hardly left with anything.

i know Vets here who are struggling to make ends meet b.c. the govertment keeps cutting their programs off. There is a rising problem of homeless to hospital being cut..America which claims to be the "richest country" has a rising problems living their Vets high and dry. There are so many rising issues with Vets rising here and the way American Gov. shamlessly treating their Vets is rising.I can links so many articles and cases of Vets . barely making end meets or growing crisis in Vet community. If America treats vet this way, cannot imagine India which itself is quiet a wealth country.

Neocons chant about having Vets back, but they are the one who stab them the most on their back.

I play Tennis at the Country Club here. Most oldies who play golf here are retd. Commissioned Officers of US Armed forces. Decorated veterans who're enjoying a very good retd. life. Most male members of royal families all over the world are/were officers in their armed forces.

I think many here are getting confused between an Army Jawan/Non commissioned US veteran with Officers. There's a huge difference.

Edited to add: I sound so shallow here. Your post is true for the non commissioned veterans who are struggling world over. My post trivializes their fight. There's a huge discrepancy in the lifestyle of officers and jawans. I don't want to open a can of worms...there's a lot of corruption too. So the eterans struggle.
