What about soldiers who fought for the British ? Complicated again ? IDK how to articulate it but feel it is like a traitor but people had families to feed so there is that. History is complicated and judging them now is foolish but still I feel like that.

Yes I am talking about gov. jobs... Only few Indians were highly educated then, or even educated... And gov jobs were very highly prized... Not many opportunities available in the country to make a living then
I read somewhere even at the height of Independence movement there wasn't widespread support among common people, less 50% or something

Bold - Agree... People's mindset was totally different then

But I am not saying it was morally right... But by today's standard most people were traitors then.

Obviously kjo milks it a lot.

SRK is considered to be a very charismatic orator. His story with Gauri, struggles as an actor and his life before Mumbai is widely published. So Kjo definitely took the idea to fake hardships from him. Kjo worked in serials referred by his parents. He has worked in ads as well.

Most of his actress and actors who worked with him were his friends. Srk kajol and so on. He actually never had to struggle. Everything came easy to him.

The only thing he is actually good at beside crying is making connections. And that is not something which would sell in a biography.

In fact, 80% of the people associated with Bollywood whether in the past or today, have had generations who were well off and most of them were because they were in the good books of the British administration during British Raj.

Even Pandit Nehru's PM-ship is a result of his grandfather's chaplusi during the British Raj. India's top businesspeople, empires, Bollywood personalities, brands, etc. are the descendants of the privileged class during India under UK.

If we go deeper into this and research the legacy, the findings would be scary because the torch-bearers today are the very same people who were loyal to Britishers back then.

This is very true. But SRK's family was definitely not one of those people. His immediate family's fortunes went up and down.

His mother was definitely from a prestigious and wealthy family. Her father was the Chief Engineer of Karnataka and in charge of building the Mangalore Port. He was educated at Oxford. His mother, Fatima, was also Oxford educated and she was engaged to a Team India cricketer when she met SRK's father. I've seen it stated that she was also the adopted daughter (maybe they mean god-daughter) of Shah Nawaz Khan who was a politician and general in Subhash Chandra Bose's National Army. Because of this, he was tried for treason by the British Army and sentenced to death. His sentence was later commuted due to protests.

On his father's side, the family was from Peshawar. As a teenager, he left Pakistan for India and was one of the youngest Indian freedom fighters. Since then, they never really had any relationship with his father's family since they all stayed in Pakistan. Only he chose India. Later, the Indian gov't gave him some kind of oil business because they used to try to provide for the freedom fighters.

Anyway, his father was a lawyer but never really held any jobs and kept failing in his businesses. His mother kept the family running but it all went down the drain when his father got cancer. It drained their resources and they definitely did have many poor years. So I think his family saw both riches and poverty. I'm sure SRK embellishes some stories but most of it is true.

It's actually a shame that SRK keeps getting called a Pakistani agent and slandered by the bhakts so much since his background is really quite patriotic - much more than most people.
