Yeah. The rags-to-rich trend is strong. The whole American dream is based on that, so I think India caught the bug in the late 90s and it was engrained by the mid-2000s.
I hate how Bollywood and liberal North India media pretend that USA and UK are India's neighbors, while South India is somewhere in the Antartica.
Karan Johar doesn't come from any deprivation background. He doesn't need to show how he's among that rags-to-riches story. In fact, 80% of the people associated with Bollywood whether in the past or today, have had generations who were well off and most of them were because they were in the good books of the British administration during British Raj.
Even Pandit Nehru's PM-ship is a result of his grandfather's chaplusi during the British Raj. India's top businesspeople, empires, Bollywood personalities, brands, etc. are the descendants of the privileged class during India under UK.If we go deeper into this and research the legacy, the findings would be scary because the torch-bearers today are the very same people who were loyal to Britishers back then.
