because urdu language is far better assimilated compared to sanskrit and song is prepared for normal people

TM: I agree with you.
I don't understand Urdu as well, but thanks to BW and it's usage of Urdu words, I probably understand 4-5 Urdu words now.

Same can be done with Sanskrit too and am pretty sure, just as how people now understand Urdu words, they would start learning Sanskrit as well.

For absolutely no logical reason though, I've always associated Sanskrit language to be very pure, pious and therefore used in mantras and devotional songs. 😊 I really don't know how I would feel about hero heroines singing love songs in Sanskrit 😆

Two points stood out for me from your post

"It is important to note that in 1931, Urdu was not the native language of any of the inhabitants of what is today Pakistan, although it was spoken in a few parts like Karachi and Lahore, because of cultural mixing. However, Urdu was a thriving language in North India (Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh)."

AND

"Since the music of Bollywood became more famous than the films themselves, careful attention was paid to the poetry of music. Only the finest Urdu poets were selected as lyricists for song writing. Urdu poetry became the medium of songs for several reasons."

I think you just found the post. And that post made a lot of sense, and brought into light why Urdu is still used in today's industry.

Its wrong to say urdu is not a Indian language.
Its one if the 2nd official language of my city Gulbarga and yes Kannada is our first official and state language . We have alot of urdu medium schools too.

Sare Jahan se Accha formally known as Tarnah-i-Hindi is an Urdu language poem.

True, now days English and Punjabi too is being used, however Urdu is still used the most, why not purer hindi? which is more Sanskrit. They are hardly hindi songs

The funny thing though is, the dialogues in bollywood movies are more purer hindi, but songs still tend to be more Urdu

What "nowadays" nonsense??!! 😕
The first Indian film with sound came in 1931.
There were songs written in Hindi + Urdu + Punjabi and believe it or not English too in the 1930s!!!!!!!
Do some research and take off those rose tinted nostalgic glasses. 😉

Urdu is beautiful indian language..so rich and poetic that its hard to resist. It can be seen how elegant anything become that has gist of urdu in it including bollywood songs and reason why it is used frequently bz of its trait and beauty.Rightly said by javed akhtar - Urdu bahut sakth jaan hai, ki marti nahi hai , jiski daddh deni chahiye

"Iske padne wale din baa din kaam ho rahe hai aur iske chahne wale din ba din bharr rahe hai".

That's because Urdu words are widely used in hindi language in real life.. that is why they find their way into BW songs.

I agree with above though, I'm finding more Punjabi these days.. I don't understand it at all.
