In Saawarya (which I watched when they were launched without much interest in the actors), I felt Sonam was better than Ranbir hence my shock when I saw her next in I Hate Luv Storys in which I thought her acting wasn't up to par.

If SLB didn't potential in both Sonam and Ranbir, why would he have casted them when he was quite a popular director?

Have to agree to disagree on the acting especially in Ranjhaana where she was rather next to Dhanush who was far superior and who is an actual best actor national award winner for a Tamil movie (not a mention like Sonam) way before he came to BW.

@Bold What potential did Adi see in Shradda or Arjun ? What potential did KJO see in Varun, Alia, now Sara, Jhanvi ? They see the talent of their parents and take a chance, more like a roll of the dice. In Ranbir's case it worked out unlike the generation before him and in Sonam's case it took 10 years for her to finally act. But look wise Sonam is a perfect SLB heroine and it's not like BW is known for acting especially in debut movies, so I wouldn't fault him for casting her. To be fair to her, she was his AD so its not like she just waltzed in and asked for a role.

^I don't get into debates about acting talent anymore because I sincerely think it's just one of those things that's in the eye of the beholder. No one side will ever be able to convince another side. You either see it or you don't. Nobody will convince me Ranbir is anything but dull and boring and better off away from the camera. Similarly, I'm sure some people will feel the same about the actors I like.

In Sonam's case, I think she was good in Sawaariya and came across much better than Ranbir did. Maybe it was just that she's so beautiful that she came alive like one of those old fashioned screen goddesses of past decades but whatever it was, it worked. She was also perfect as the bratty and spoiled Aisha or the enchanting and almost child-like character she played in Rajhanna. There are movies where the triangle doesn't work for me at all because I just don't buy why anyone would even like the central character. In Sonam's case, I totally bought it. I could see why these guys would be obsessed with her. She had tiny roles in Delhi 6 and that Milkha movie but she fit in great there too. Neerja was of course her star turn but frankly I think she had it in her long before that.

In her case, I think her off screen behavior contributes to the mockery and hatred people have of her as an actress. Just because she says dumb things or is overly interested in seemingly frivolous things like fashion, she's dismissed as an actress too.

I'm not saying she's the best actress around but she's quite good in roles that suit her. I love her and her sister for producing female-centered movies that are actually fun and light. Most of the time, people groan at even the thought of women-based movies because they're all about abuse, prostitution or rape as if those are the only topics women are defined by.

I don't care what anyone says but I'm really looking forward to the Sonam and Kareena movie. She may be a result of nepotism but she's putting her mark in her own way and good on her for making chick flicks. Why should men have all the fun?

I felt the same way about great Dilip Kumar till I gained some insight on what acting is really all about and cues I had been not missing. I hope one day, you will gain some insight too. 👍🏼

^You need help. Seek it immediately.

The only time Ranbir has any spark is when he's aping Raj Kapoor who in turn copied Charlie Chaplin. The rest of the time, he looks completely zoned out.

Even in his supposed best work, Barfi, it was Priyanka Chopra who completely ran away with the movie. I don't like to make comparisons because actors collaborate with each other, not compete, but when you're not the best one in your supposed best movie, that's saying something.

India loves dynasty and he gives them glimpses of Raj Kapoor. I think Abhishek failed primarily because he didn't ape Amitabh and didn't have the same look or acting style. They couldn't see the young Amitabh they wanted because Abhi was his own person and he was more like Jaya anyway. But IMO, even Abhishek is a much better actor than Ranbir. His work in Guru or Sarkar or even Bluffmaster tops anything Ranbir has done.

But that's why I said, acting is something there's no point arguing about because people see what they see.

Agree with anonymous39 that acting is quite a subjective thing to judge. Eye of the beholder for sure!
I think Ranbir is great, but I get what you're saying. I agree with you about Sonam though. I like how she's literally the only one making chick flicks! People always dismiss the genre but an industry needs to have all types of movies made.

I get the feeling that Noor is also in that chick flick category. Or at least I got that feeling and wanted to watch it. But all the reviews say it turns serious and doesn't do a good job of it, so I'm not sure if I should watch it.. Not exactly a Sonakshi fan but I like Purab and Kanan! 😳

Lol only on this forum Sonam is a better actor then Ranbir 😆

OT: Sona will be back to doing what she does best - flowerpot roles. Though her performane in lootera is better then anything Sonam has done so far.
