Sonam and acting 😆
She is awful in most movies barring Neerja for which movie and the subject takes lot of credit. And shabana and jim ate her alive in performance department in that movie. She actually ruined the second half of Raanjhanaa when they gave more focus to her compared to 1st half.

Anyways Sonakshi is overrated so not so surprised.

@Bold What potential did Adi see in Shradda or Arjun ? What potential did KJO see in Varun, Alia, now Sara, Jhanvi ? They see the talent of their parents and take a chance, more like a roll of the dice. In Ranbir's case it worked out unlike the generation before him and in Sonam's case it took 10 years for her to finally act. But look wise Sonam is a perfect SLB heroine and it's not like BW is known for acting especially in debut movies, so I wouldn't fault him for casting her. To be fair to her, she was his AD so its not like she just waltzed in and asked for a role.

I felt Sonam held her ground well opposite Dhanush (which I already knew). But eh, let's agree to disagree.

I think that SLB casting Sonam in Saawarya is different than Adi or Kjo casting Arjun, Shraddha, Varun and Alia because Saawarya was quite an artsy movie and SLB is (was?) known for his vision. He wouldn't have casted Sonam as Sakina if she didn't fit he what he envisionned. Kjo used his movie as a launch vehicle it was commercial and with no substance (it's not a jab)... Kjo wanted to launch these three to become their godfather and pave their way toward the career he wanted for them to have. Varun is more independant than Alia and Sid though and Alia managed to to impress from Highway (which she didn't get out of nowhere)

As for Adi was thinking as a producer more than as a director and when Kjo is thinking in launching the likes of Jhanvi and Sarah, he's thinking as a producer but not as a director.

Of course, as it was Ranbir and Sonam's first movie, he didn't know what they were worth as actors but my point is that Sonam was cast because her physique and the innocence she displays seems to be what they are looking for; Hence SLB took her in Saawarya, ALR took her in Raanjhanaa, Pankaj Kapur took her in Mausam (which was esthetically great but really draggy), ROM took her in Delhi 6 and BMB and she was primarily his Saahiban (which didn't materiaze) also R. Madhvani only envisionned her as Neerja. Even VB and Adi had wanted to cast her at one point but sadly it didn't materialized.

As I told you in my previous posts, I do think Sonam was very good in some of her movies prior to Neerja. Well you might appreciate her more in her future movies who knows.

Regardng the Special Mention she received, it's still commendable that the jury though her performance was noteworthy enough to grant her this distinction among other actresses who also gave great performances. It's not the Best Actress Award or the Special Jury Award but it's better than no recognition.

Agreed! She was unconvincing with showing the pain stewing inside her, somebody like Manisha Koirala would have done a great job portraying Zoya's feelings; however Sonam stuck with with one cold expression on her face, it really ruined the impact of the second half.

what the said poster said was when Saawariya released she found Sonam better than Ranbir, not because she thought Sonam is better actor but because Sonam resonate the classic Indian beauty aura which old era heroines had.

i still remember when saawariya was about to release i was totally crushing over sonam kapoor..she looked like a dream..i was totally rooting for her and I think she did a decent job..i would have to say i found her much better in acting and looks than deepika in OSO who was not groomed then..neither in looks or acting and even her voice was dubbed

however it all ended when I saw more and more interviews of sonam..much later i would say..coz I feel SLB asked her to be a lot more reserved during saawariya promotions so that people connect more with sakina..

it was like I was liking an idea but that ended with 2007 coz sonam turned out nothing like that..how she was onscreen and offscreen (then on SLB's instruction i feel to not fully be herself)

and somehow her personality could not click.with me..also I feel i have many times judged her harshly as an actor coz i was so repulsed by her personality..confession!

deepika on the other hand is now nothing like her OSO days and she won me over..looks and acting wise

having said that..sonam showed lots of potential in Neerja..but yes she makes people go harsher on her coz she just overhypes herself so much..but in terms of craft strictly..she has improved a lot

coming back to the thread (which no ones really seems to be discussing inc me ;p) the opening is very disappointing man..at worst i expected it to at least cross 2 cr..

Good thing is Ittefaq will have high production value hence lot of promotion and there is Sidarth who is an A list actor. He might not be the best but he does have a fanbase.

Sonakshi used to actively talk about not caring about the respect part of acting, but only about box office returns years ago. Frankly, I doubt she cares about the respect part. She pretty much admitted she didn't care for Lootera and preferred the Rowdy Rathores.

You get respect for the film from the media only and only if the movie is good and the actress does well as well. There's a reason why Vidya is credited with being the trailblazer for female-oriented roles and getting that respect for actresses and not PC, who used to try with those female-led roles as well...it's because Vidya was successful and PC's such roles were all flops or disasters. So, bad box office returns for these movies for Sona will sadly do nothing for her.

IMHO, it is too little too late for Sonakshi. There is nothing really memorable about her. On the other hand, Sonam...elicits extremely strong reactions from people and she always has, even if it's predominantly negative in nature...and that is the primary reason why she has survived for 10 years..I don't see Sonam as someone who is extremely bright or an outstanding actress, but she has kept herself relevant for the audience for 10 years despite doing such few films, most of them being failures...and this is beyond nepotism..
