Fanna and Gupt are two I think were diverse. I also really enjoyed her in U Me our hum and and Dil Kya Kare even if those were less appreciated. I think she was fab and her role was unique in UM&H. Kajol acts her roles well also.

Let's discuss this how many actresses in the 90s were experimental anyways with the exception of Tabu or Manisha? Urmila didn't start experimenting until the 2000s. Before that she was a known for her sex appeal. Even Zubeida and Fiza came in the 2000s. Before that Karishma did flowerpot roles in 90s as didn't Raveena. Madhuri mostly did musicals and was famous for her item numbers. 90s wasn't a heroine centric time. So it makes sense Kajol compared to her own contemporaries was considered superior.

I do agree, a lot of her roles were very similar to each other, similarly to Rani who also did a lot of the run of the mill stuff. When I think more about it, I feel like it has to do with the fact that both of their careers peaked at time where doing unique and female centric roles were not as mainstream or appreciated. That has since changed and if they both were still young, maybe they would have gotten them, knows.
