If I see from point of view of clarity, tallafuz, command over language, purity, pristine and all then Sonu Nigham is second only to Rafi. He is just on another level..you will never hear him ruin a song by saying KHHHABAR instead of khabar.

In terms of hero's voice...kumar sanu is at top

In terms of popular songs udit is at top

so it depends what matters to you...sonu nigham in the end does not have that perfect hero voice which kishore had and rafi did not. but people remember rafi for his perfection and clarity and singing talent.

i dont care much and to me it is song to song

u are bit wrong rafi sahab is known to sing as an actor for his actor like chahe koi mujey jungli kahe he imbibe the style of shami kapoor and even with sir jo tera chakraye ya dil dooba jaye he imbibied jhony walker style in it ...and with sonu shanu udit i guess these 3 have sutied perfectly for heros of their time but only sonu had the quality which rafi sahab had like sonu have sang for goinda by imbibing govinda passion in a songs be it akhiyoon se goli are or whats is mobile number and if u see salman khan and sonu nigam songs as sonu has been the permanenet voice of salman khan in 2000 decade when sonu sing for salman energy is of some other level like jeene ke hain char din , just chill or even in romantic songs like bindiya chamke choori khanke or aate jaate ho milta hai tumsa lagta hai it doesnt seem like sonu singing it it seems like salman himself is singing the song ..and be it shahrukh's romance its been popular phase that shahrukh is face of romance and sonu is voice of romance they made more news together while abhijeet and udit narayan also suited him perfectly but udit , abhijeet , kumar sanu they can not mold their voices to different style i am not seeing any one of them render jeene ke hain char din with the chichora and awara effect sonu gave to that song .

and also none of other singer of 90's can render this song by keeping modren essence plus fiting salman face accurately

there is always singers who suit hero more than other and kishore udit kumar are that category..mainstream voice

then there are singers who have more talent, more craft, more quality but they do not have that perfect voice that suits hero. rafi and sonu are those

ur point is covered in my analysis as i did say they have more talent and therefore ability to adjust is there.

to whom sonu and rafi didnt suited can u tell me for sonu be it anil kappor (kismat se tum humko mele ho , mere zindagi main aye ho , etc..., akhsye kumar , shahrukh , salman , amir , shahid kapoor , govinda , ajay davgan, bobby deol , sunny deol etc he suited every one of them perfectly ...for rafi to whom rafi didnt suited shashi kappoor best match was rafi , dilip kumar, shami kapoor , best matach was rafi , even the songs he sang for amitabh was well suited ...
