Raees was meant for EID man. Once they chose to shift from that date then I guess the criteria probably was to release it as soon as they could. Major holidays are always booked in advance so there was no spare dates like that last year. I guess they thought it would be apt to release it in Jan as shifting it to a later date would have resulted in the buzz perhaps not being as much as it had already been six months or so since EID.

BBD came in Sept
Then Oct had ADHM Shivaay
December had so many films
Jan was the earliest option
