The point is not that Ash addresses Rekha as maa out of endearment or if maa is considered a lovable name in south india .. The point is knowing what 'maa' means and its about KNOWING that calling Rekha maa will create a controversy. I mean Ash isnt niave to say oh i respect her very much and i always call maa to ppl i want to give respect so yes i call rekha maa.

She VERY WELL knows what consequences it has,what the history is .. and how odd it looks! So pretty much she does it on purpose. There are a million other ways to respect a person other than calling maa.
