So I was just watching Masand's interview with this young guy, Harshvardhan Kapoor:

I don't know if a topic has been created specifically on him, baring apart the movie as a whole, but I wonder what you all think about him. Is he an amalgamation of Aamir Khan and Ranbir Kapoor? He likes to call himself an AK fan, and wants to be like him, but does he sound like he can? Nowadays, any new kid entering wants to be the next AK.

Also, he sounds very intellectually driven and careful about his future movies. I did a little research and saw he's doing Vikram Aditya Motwane's next, might be in Sriram Raghavan's future project who gave Varun Dhawan his possibly only critically acclaimed movie yet. He quotes numerous personalities and idolizes Terrence Malick from HW. He apparently gives career advice to his own father. Since this forum likes to talk about 'superstardom', do you think he has the potential to give a solid takkar to the present young folks?

Also, isn't there an air of arrogance somewhat? He's studied writing and direction, so he clearly knows his stuff, but I find a lack of humility in his stance, which quite frankly might not be the best thing at such a young age and with no actual releases/bow office figures/reviews yet. At least in that way, he's like his sister. 😆

Discuss.

I like him. He has got his own mind, and is very genuine, not fake at all or trying to seem agreeable at all. Hope he is successful..

And wow, these people do so much hardwork! All that he told about the horseriding and archery lessons was inspiring, it'll be very sad if it didn't do well at BO.

Film-making is wonderful na.. they should make movies about film-making 😆

And I'll watch Terence Malick's movies that he likes so much.. 🤓

Mirzaya will FLOP. It will flop bad. He will start learning his lessons post that.

He is Anil Kapoor's son, a man who is pretty full of himself, so the arrogance has been intrinsic perhaps. It is imperative in this industry to back your own self coz everyone else is waiting to bring you down. You tend to see this in mostly all successful stars. Some hide it better than the others but it's there. That sense of entitlement. I don't particularly hold that against him or others, I see it as an occupational hazard.

He is clearly looking for critical acclaim and will get that eventually but I feel his first movie will let him down which will be a blessing in disguise for him.He is a star kid and we will be seeing a whole lot him for sure!

I feel like watching those TM flicks as well, though quite frankly, I need a certain mood for watching old movies which comes by very rarely and with quite some difficulty too.

Movie-making is absolutely wonderful. And sometimes you're right, we never grasp the kind of hardwork that goes behind it either. Reminds me of an RK quote where he said: 'Aisa nahi hai ke chalo yuhin koi movie banali aur koi audience nahi ho.'

Also, it both surprises me, and actually makes me glad the amount of hard work some of these kids go through for a simple movie. RK for Rockstar, RS for Bajirao/RL, SSR for MSD and now this kid for Mirzya. They've all spent months, learning history, music, behaviour, mannerisms, horse riding or whatever necessary for their respective roles. We often see the nonchalance during the phase of promotions or success, but we don't even realize the amount of hard work, dedication, a lot of times seclusion/sacrifice that goes into preparing for these roles. They've all said that these roles have changed them somewhat, and we take it to be physical/status wise, but how emotionally daunting must the experiences have been! It's easy to say someone is earning a lot of bucks/fame for a certain movie, but it's hard to respect the kind of input that has gone into making it so big in the first place. Kuddos to them!

I'm 50-50 on the likeness factor. I want to see him first to see what is he so proud about. If he truly is as objective as he believes he is, then he won't mind the criticism either.

Agreed. He is privileged. And he might be intuitive or creatively smarter, but it is easier for him to get a Vikram or Rakesh Omprakash to sign him in than 95% of other equally deserving newcomers. For sure.

Being a star kid however, is both a blessing and a curse. Look at how Abhishek Bachan and Uday Chopra have turned out. It's not always guaranteed success either, especially in these times.

@underlined - I'm just hugely curious. Why the confidence about it definitely being a flop? I mean it has no real competition except MSD from this week after all. Do you believe it'll have the same repercussions of what Saawariya did for/to RK?

Coming to the arrogance issue, it probably stems from both Anil Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor I presume. The arrogance is overflowing. Also, I tend to notice how they cannot hear a single critic about the family members. Even when asked about his father's "other commercial" movies, he flicks it off as saying 'fun, summertime, outdoor movies' when his facial expressions clearly show what he actually thinks about those movies. And let's not get into the whole his sister and Neerja comment.

I think more than critical acclaim, he's looking to emulate Aamir Khan's recent years. From his stance, he definitely wants to be both a star AND a praised actor. Less so for his acting, more so for the kind of movies he chooses. Something which struck me as variedly different from what Ranbir has been doing. RK looks for the actor/script in the movie first, and doesn't necessarily worry about the potential of the movie in itself, which explains the debacles that were Besharam and Bombay Velvet. One catchy point was the fact that HK said in this interview that he'll always choose a great director over a great script and that's quintessentially what he looks for before signing.

Heard he is a nice guy and very mature at an young age.
Will watch his movie and subsequent interviews and decide 😉
Don't have much hope on Mirziya though and also that blind which said he is arrogant makes me think negative about him.
