He talks about all these things in a party and cracks jokes on it. Sahil gets annoyed as he feels humiliated and leaves.

Now this is exactly how I feel if somebody says something about my country or someone who is close to me. Now there might be several flaws with our country but RDB taught us > Koi Country perfect nahi hoti, usse perfect banana padta hai< Even though some of these things might be factually correct, I wouldn't like anybody talking about such things on a public platform where entertainment is the sole purpose. If it's an event where the purpose is a discussion regarding that particular topic or a debate then why not, keeping in mind that it doesn't end up being a joke.

At the same time, I feel most of the people who end up saying such things, say it in jest and do not mean to demean the country or the concerned party.

Yes exactly! Your country is like your family, ghar main Kitna bhi bhala bura kehlo baharwaalo ke saamne kuch nahi holenge, it's an unsaid rule! 😆

It is usually identifiable when somebody is mocking or saying it in jest. But since understanding whether the tone is right or not is subjective so the person who says it will always be under the scanner!

Whether my country or other country...I criticise equally. But when I hear criticism I see what's their intention and if they are fair in their opinion I don't argue but I also don't argue with idiots for their irrationallity. But if somone misunderstood our culture I do present the facts.

I am definitely very very patriotic & it only increases when I go abroad/meet foreigners. A few of my relatives married into the family are foreigners & it's so interesting to see their perceptions/outlook on our country & try to introduce them to the more positive aspects of our culture/country/city!! When they do state certain negative opinions it does role my blood until I put myself in their shoes & see what they see-- Many times it isn't hard & provides a more unbiased opinion. Then begins the re-education, LOL, but I've noticed a lot of foreigners become enchanted with India & all it has to offer, but what annoys the f**k out of me is when One travels abroad & the many exclamations of how we "don't sound Indian," etc.. Makes me angry, so engines irrationally so when the intent isn't negative.

Other peeves are when cousins etc keep commenting on the state of India negatively, I understand they're not Indian per se, but their culture & heritage is but for most foreigners of Indian origin, assimilation + inherited culture is a very difficult balance to make.

I have seen that too actually! Mostly actually the tourists visiting don't have much problems, since they are so fascinated with the different cultures and festivities they get to see. Whatever problems they have usually in relations with the infrastructure here, its too hard to travel and understand for them! My blood usually boils at generalizations and mocking jokes. I'm okay with somebody criticizing because there are problems and we are working towards it, but there is a line,be respectful while doing it, sarcasm drippping mocking sentences are a complete no no!

Oh that cousin thing happens with EVERY Indian kid once in their life! When you have relatives from abroad and they can't stop yakking about how they can't wait to go back. But it's okay it's sometimes fun to troll these cousins! 😆

Am not a patriot. Kuch bhi keh lo, sanu ki?
Lekin ek baat... aise threads mein kuch log apni asli rang dikha dete hai. Aur agar un mein se ek do tumhare friends hai, toh achcha nahin lagta apne friend ke dusre roop dekh kar.

Pat: My closest cousins in relation to me (does that make sense?) aren't like that, they know many Paaths etc that we don't loool! But yes, there are others who are as far from their cultural heritage as possible & many times its encouraged because when they return what will people say? They'll mock their accents because they aren't posh anymore so they've to stop playing with the neighbourhood children even though well, they're exactly like that.. It's a very very difficult balance to make but I've seen a few people strike it beautifully.. Just foreigner enough to blend it, and just unique enough because they're proud of their heritage.. My patriotism tends to increase when I am not in my country tbh, lol. I think that happens with a lot of Indians!

I am only patriotic to the extent of craziness, if there is some match or something. Actually it has more to do with the fact I love , love sports. So , if it's my fav team , club..I would be crazy during that time.
As far as country is concerned, I believe in criticism because it gives space to discussion, dialogue and you are arguing with words which are far more insightful and a better way than anything else. Also, if you are really patriotic than criticism should be addressed . In the end who you are, what you believe cannot be influenced by others unless you will it.

Other than that I love political discussions, there is always a grey and it's fun exploring it. You need to criticize, discuss and debate, everything to evolve.

But I would say the feeling of Patriotism does simmer more if you are away from it because you see your country from a different perspective. You either develop a more objective or very subjective opinion about it.

However critical I might be of few things in India, one of the criticisms that really got me worked up is some XYZ gora mocking our Hindu Gods saying why do you pray to such funny idols. I'm not highly spiritual after coming to USA, but I do believe in God. I cannot take this quietly. Now I know how to reply without being hyper, thanks to one of my close friends who is so close to the Hindu literature.

Well, I have heard many people who are not from my state, criticizing and hating my state and it's language. The language I can understand as it's a little loud and people need time to get adjusted with that volume. But talking about they dont know, they understand and still criticizing it to the hell, that boils my blood.

But then I look at their city or state and think, mine is still better even with these short comings.
