If you are looking to try some other different BW movies than period ones then these are some in no particular order 😳 You can see the synopsis to see which one interests you more!
Barfi
Queen
Swades
Chak de India ( IF you are an Indian 😆
English Vinglish
Bajrangi Bhaijaan
Piku
Dum laga ke haisha

Suspense
Drishyam
Kahaani

ur list is soo good..I would like to throw in Laagan and Parineeta too since she likes the vintage set up

Thanks for the responses so far.

Any historical / period stuff with a lick of action there is good. Scenery is a big plus too! I'm from the country side and lived in Japan for a while so i'm a big lover of mountain ranges and what not ^_^ !

I must sleep though, will check back in tomorrow. (Why did I decide that staying up until 6:40.am when I have to get up soon was a good idea ?!?! )

Jodha Akbar in recent times.

Mughal E Azm is considered all time classic (Black and white movie. Made fifty years back. Recently print got coloured). I am not sure about the action scenes though. (Mainly romantic).

Amrapali I think, it was made around same time as Moghal E Azm, but not as successful (in fact flop). But I rate it above other movies because of its content.

Thank you thank you thank you everyone (dhanyavaad? nandri? 🤔) 👍🏼

So many suggestions, and they all brought up songs and clips on YouTube of other movies so I think I have plenty to watch now 😃

You've all given me hours of ways to distract myself and procrastinate when I go back to uni😆

For the record, I think I enjoyed Bajirao Mastani so much because for quite some time I've loved music from India! The more classical Hindustani / Carnatic music, particularly evening raags, the upbeat bangra (probably the wrong word) style music in these movies and some of the electronic dance stuff too. So much so I even bought myself a bansuri a while ago, although proving more difficult to play than I had anticipated 😕 . I'd wear shirts from India if it didn't look so out of place on an English guy 😭 (although I suppose it doesn't stop me wearing baggy harem pants and shirts from thailand and nepal!)

I'll be here dancing in my room to Pinga and Dola Re Dola 😊

~Of course further suggestions are still welcome although there is a lot already ^^ !

Hi,

Welcome !

If you like costume drama I recommend

Jodha Akbar
Mughal E Aazam (60s. One of the most extravagant movie sets)
Umrao Jaan (I prefer the Rekha version)

Historical
Hey Ram (Indian entry to the Oscars)
Lagaan
Legend of Bhagat Singh
(All these deal with Independence/Partition though)

Female Empowerment
Queen
Mother India
Astitva
Damini
Kahani
English Vinglish

If you want people of Indian origin Type stories. These are in English
The Namesake
Monsoon Wedding
Mississippi Masala (Love story between a black man and a girl of Indian origin. Denzel Washington plays the guy)
DDLJ (Hindi - Bollywood movie with masala but decently portrayed NRI girl IMO)

You said Nanri, do you know Tamil ? If you want Tamil movie recs please let me know !

I don't speak any Indian languages unfortunately. I've just heard those two words in songs and stuff quite a few times, but I study languages so I have an interest to pick up words here and there 😛
