This got a bit long winded, sorry 😕
I just finished watching Bajirao Mastani, which would be the first Bollywood film I've ever watched and absolutely loved it! 😊 The awesome dancing (I love dancing and I wanted to get up and join in!), some action, STUNNING clothing, good music, a good dose of culture and a (although not entirely factual) historical insight. It was all awesome and I did very much enjoy the action scenes and the touch on battle strategy (I like swords 😳. ) But I was just so taken back by the beautiful colours and general vibrancy of the film and I certainly seem to have a taste for the historically set movies. They just seem to be so "rich" if that makes sense.
What is odd is that I've never been one for films with romance sections and have never been that interested in western theatrical movies with singing and dancing, but Bajirao was just another ball park entirely! The romantic aspects were delicate and not all in-my-face, beautiful dancing and poetic responses to each other were much more enjoyable than a western fancy dinner followed by a 2 minute bedroom bash scene (🤢🤢) . Mastini reminded me very much of the Chinese film House Of Flying Daggers, with the warrior woman performing beautiful dances and songs, resulting in a less than fortunate end for the two lovers.
Now I am from England so I won't lie, I know very little about the industry and some of you will have to take my child-like fascination with a pinch of salt. From a quick search myself Baahubali did catch my eye in terms of historical action and Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-leela seemed to have some nice dancing. But I honestly don't know where to start and want to get a nice chunky list to go through.
