Honestly, BO success is very important Coz it tells you how many people actually went to watch movie in theaters .

When you are a Khan or Akki, you may look at good reviews etc and relax but if you are a RK, RS, Sid, VD or new actor fan, BO success is very important.

I think Tamasha is a masterpiece but at the end of the day, it was rejected by people, so low BO numbers. I can argue till end of universe, but can't change people's opinion.
As you can see what has unsuccessful movies done to an actor like Ranbir!!
Coming to original question , as a RK fan, when a new movie is announced , all I think is "
God please, no more Besharam, Roy, BV or even Tamasha" . So yes, BO success is on top of my mind , Coz we don't have it right now.
If we have 3 hits in a row, I'll say BO doesn't matter and critical acclaim is all I want .

BO numbers make the comparison more tangible and worth of a movie is compared in empirical terms (BO numbers/records) in an attempt to win over rival fans lol.

Like clarity said, it is all fan-related stuff.

The actors and director. Both HW and BW. There are certain actors I always go for. Those i hardly pay attention to because I know I will go.😆. SRK-Kajol fall into this category, Leo, Fassbender and a few others in HW. Salman and Aamir too in most cases. There are those I go if the movie is interesting to me. So those I keep an eye out more for. People like Ajay, Ranbir, Ranveer, DP, Akki. PC, Bebo, Hrithik, Kangy fall into this category. Some in BW. Some directors too like Ayan. This is where the story plays an important part for me.

Sadly today due to data feed era we are living, aesthetic taste is fading and all about the race, or else you will be like a broken anda😛


Personally I always care the story before BO numbers.

@bold- I think when it comes to cinema, aesthetics will always win over statistics.

For example, I posted this infographic on HW sequels not living up to the hype their predecessors created.

It's because ultimately, the content that the majority likes watching will win at the Box Office.

When content is not to the liking of the people, even superstars like SRK and Salman under perform- Dilwale, Jai Ho etc.

Because it's become so much about the numbers and not the storyline and the characters, films are losing out these days, like Baar Baar Dekho. They thought packaging posh people angst with Kala Chashma would work, but it didn't.

Bollywoods always been like this.

I've been following this since 2004 and Box office potential of the film is the first thing that comes to people's mind. Even my parents have the mindset that if a film flops it was probably not the actors best work.

I mean blame the people who made silver jubilee and golden jubilee. They are the root of this problem.

Is it even a problem tho. Making the most money isn't a bad thing and it isn't really just only for movies. They judge most money made as most important in tons of fields
