Yes it does.
Of course it is my personal opinion that an actor's acting enamours me more than her interviews or her beauty! But the general going public does favour beauty over acting potential.
PC, Kangana, Vidya will all be known as good actors & top actresses but they never go to the no1 position because they don't suit the "conventional" beauty standards. Bebo, Katrina or Deepika- whether we accept it or not, beauty has had a role to play in them being the no1, even before they became the best actresses they were no1. Of course you don't only need beauty, you need decent acting skills too- beauty & OTTNess is a very bad combination! Also this happens with me too- unconsciously when somebody looks ethereal on screen we kind of take it as screen presence. You kind of overlook their acting mistakes.
Infact in the real world you would rarely see fans of actresses Vidya, kangana or PC who are such top performers!
PS- oh btw I think Vidya is stunning! She's never included in most beautiful actresses list or everything but she is one of those earthy beauties ❤️
Conventional beauty standards- very true. It seems like actresses have to be airbrushed beauties for the BW audience to like them.
Nandita Das is someone who is considered beautiful, but I doubt she would have gone to the top even if she tried, 'cause she does not look like Sridevi or Madhuri.
In fact, I see more earthy beauties in some regional cinema like Malayalam cinema or Tamil cinema. Sai Pallavi who plays Malar in Premam comes to mind. She was replaced in the Telugu version 'cause Tollywood audiences do not like looking at women who look like the ones they see in real life.
