Lots of people are beautiful, so many in my family, college, everywhere... but they need to have a *STAR* like quality to be a superstar :p

Anu is a huge turn off during interviews.

I was watching Sultan promotions and the way she talks - she got tounge-rolling problem. She wants to talk @ speed of sound and probably thinks that speaking fast = good comand over language. Its faulty .

She has no charisma. Kat, DP even Alia have spark in them, off screen.
Her acting is also over rated. I can never connect to her. I find Kat better than her ( which is something😆)

The Indian audience doesn't find Priyanka beautiful, never has, despite being Miss World. She's always been criticized for her looks. I love seeing the west go crazy for her looks now... The same dark skin tone that was disliked by self-hating desis is considered so beautiful to the new audience.
So no, you don't have to be beautiful to be a superstar but it certainly helps especially if the person lacks talent.

No that's not what she thinks- Anu has anxiety issues! She said she is socially awkward - that is why it is hard for her to talk in interviews! It's actually not in her hands that she talks so fast and fumbles a lot. And all the scrutinising she gets, makes her confidence even less! And frankly her interviews shouldn't even be a criteria, her job is to act, which she does pretty well!

that is a very gross generalization tbh

not many of us 'desis' have may be not found her that stunning but that doesn't only mean it is coz she is dark..deepika is dark but i think she is breath-taking gorgoeus..may be some desis don't like her features (priyanka) ..not everything has to be credited to her dark skin..just saying

Anu is already a superstar, being heroine of 2 highest grossing films is enough to give her that tag.
Why wont she get credit for being heroines of those ATBB films? 😕

Anyway Anu is very pretty and has a strong screen presence and she CAN act...so all combined shes one of the Top Stars now.

And No, if Kajol could be a superstar in the 90s with her unibrow and dark complexion, then conventional ideas of beauty doesnt matter so much in movies, TALENT and SCREEN PRESENCE/ CHARISMA, are the main deciding factors.
Although I always found Kajol and Rani both are very attractive and beautiful in their own way...its their charisma and onscreen persona that matters.

Yes it does.

Of course it is my personal opinion that an actor's acting enamours me more than her interviews or her beauty! But the general going public does favour beauty over acting potential.

PC, Kangana, Vidya will all be known as good actors & top actresses but they never go to the no1 position because they don't suit the "conventional" beauty standards. Bebo, Katrina or Deepika- whether we accept it or not, beauty has had a role to play in them being the no1, even before they became the best actresses they were no1. Of course you don't only need beauty, you need decent acting skills too- beauty & OTTNess is a very bad combination! Also this happens with me too- unconsciously when somebody looks ethereal on screen we kind of take it as screen presence. You kind of overlook their acting mistakes.

Infact in the real world you would rarely see fans of actresses Vidya, kangana or PC who are such top performers!

PS- oh btw I think Vidya is stunning! She's never included in most beautiful actresses list or everything but she is one of those earthy beauties ❤️

I fail to understand how is Anushka not pretty or beautiful 😆, some people have really high standards. Seems like they are surrounded by Aishwaryas and Dharmendras of the world😆

you really think desis don't have a fairness obsession? the sales of Fair and Lovely and other fairness creams in India would say otherwise.

Anyways dark skin was only an example. Indian audience doesn't like Priyanka's features and looks in general either whereas after Quantico I'm seeing a lot more people consider her stunningly beautiful.

I think people don't like features associated with dark skin in general. People like more 'white' features. Aish's blue eyes or whatever colour they are is a huge reason she is popular. The fact that she looks ambiguous and 'white-like' makes her more attractive.

Also, Deepika is dark? 😕 Isn't she a light brown? I think dark are the likes of Anu Agarwal, Smita Patil, Mindy Kaling, Nandita Das etc. Rare to see someone of their colouring in BW.
