This is inspired by shadesofnature's thread about whether this year will be Anushka's or not.
It got me thinking whether an actress has to be considered beautiful by the audience to be a superstar.Case in point, Deepika, Katrina, Kareena, Sridevi, Madhuri, PC are all considered very good-looking by the general public, apart from being appreciated for their thespian skills.
Is this a limitation that female actors face? Do they have to be a pretty face for their performances to be appreciated as much? Even if female actors deliver good performances, do they HAVE to be hot for them to reach the numero uno spot?
Anushka's performances have been mostly critically and publicly acclaimed, but she still has not achieved what they call 'super-stardom'. Is it even important for her to do that?
What do you all think?
