I'm just curious, how does Hollywood manage all this? Don't know much about how that industry works.
I don't hear about any PHs shutting down there, and they have some supremely high budget movies.

Except for salman films..hardly any block buster films are being made.

There is no entertainment without women..they are needed at least for window dressing.

Actresses are paid so poorly and given such a raw deal..none of the top actresses want to work in the big masala films.Even katrina wants good money and good roles..her presence would have greenlit many films.

The writers dont have interesting, intrinsically filmy scripts to write..where are the women?

The music directors are not inspired to make zingy film scores..as the themes are dull.

90 % of songs are sung by male singers.because the hero wants all the songs.

There has to be a balance.Half the population is female..(unlike sports, which have more male patronage)

A few years back there were so many interesting projects..

Now none with top heroines...and the industry is hurting

@bold: I don't really get bothered much but sometimes I'm looking for songs by females to sing along to in the shower 😆 but I can't find many!

There's still Red Chillies, Illuminati, UTV, SLB films and many more.
Disney India still has Dangal on the blocks. That could make a difference.

Balaji shutting down it's film production wing is sad, but not too surprising tbh. They haven't done well in ages now.

BW, over the years, has lost its individuality, simplicity, charm, and lost sight of what made it work, perhaps in trying to compete with HW.

They have so many resources but the creativity is at all time low, and not just in terms of writing. Aaj kal toh, get a big star, give them 80cr, book holiday 3 years in advance, put in a Honey Singh or Baadshah song, aur picture ban gayi.

I'll cite Sairat here...that movie did so well, despite being a regional movie and having probably 1/10th the budget of a regular BW film. The treatment there is fantastic. The film is literally something old BW would have easily made -- deduction, there's still an audience for everything but BW is losing it's connect...or even look at how successful TWMR was. That movie, IMHO, defines old school BW for what it is...if somebody asked me to name a film that truly defines BW recently, I would use that one...story, music, acting, direction, great screenplay, drama, comedy, etc. I'm not saying BW

It doesn't help that stars all have big egos, assume they alone can make anything and everything work, they charge and are paid crazy amounts of money that simply can't be justified. Budgets seriously need to be slashed. Release sizes need to be controlled...why some movies are released everywhere when they won't work in some parts of India doesn't make any sense. ..and pay writers more, give them more credit, and some incentives to get creative and do good work.

Anyway situation may improve as GST will be implemented from April 2017 and taxes will come down and with that hopefully ticket prices too for the paying audience.
Disney and Balaji moving out as they have options. That is Disney can earn well from dubbed HW films. Government probably has to restrict the number of screens allowed for HW films or tax them more. Balaji's main business is the TV business. Most others dont really have other options and they have to find a solution to their problems. I also think corporates coming in and paying astronomical sums to stars like Ranbir, HR (using an example) is a killer.

Plexes in Hyderabad charge 120-150 per ticket. 250 for IMAX big screen.
