Anyway I think BW is bleeding as people are not willing to pay for the movies being made. I will primarily blame mediocre products driven by mediocre actors thanks to the nepotism. Regional industry manages to survive despite nepotism as they focus on a limited audience and receive lot of government support. While BW has to focus on entire India and taste of audiences vary. Certain places like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore ticket prices are sky high. Who will pay so much for a poor product when you can watch it for free at home?
BW should really learn from cricket on how to cater to an all India audience. Unlike BW cricket is not entirely dependent on the audience coming to watch matches in stadium. They have monetized other forms of watching the sport thru telecast of matches, endorsements. Thats because people are interested in the sport as our cricketers are the best at the world level. The same cant be said of actors. I mean who will pay to watch a mota saand like Arjun Kapoor dancing to 'Main superman, Salman ka fan'?

Same is the case in Telugu states atleast for single screens. Plexes max is 300-400. In Tamil Nadu there is no tax charged if the title is in Tamil.
Anyway situation may improve as GST will be implemented from April 2017 and taxes will come down and with that hopefully ticket prices too for the paying audience.
Disney and Balaji moving out as they have options. That is Disney can earn well from dubbed HW films. Government probably has to restrict the number of screens allowed for HW films or tax them more. Balaji's main business is the TV business. Most others dont really have other options and they have to find a solution to their problems. I also think corporates coming in and paying astronomical sums to stars like Ranbir, HR (using an example) is a killer.

this pre release noise and exposure has killed the joy in watching movies
any one and everyone is doing reviews. There are even trailer reviews these days for God's sake

A film is a hit or flop even before it is released. Music has just become a selling gimmick instead of being an integral part of the story. Lack of good stories is another reason.

Instead of treating the movie as a whole product it is constructed in parts... have a story of sort, get a super star, get 5 music directors and get 5 songs to cover check list of - item song, club song, sufi song etc etc, spend huge money in promotions, get paid reviews and social media endorsements...

doesnt really work does it?

Not to mention book release dates 2 years in advance and then plan your film backwards.

If you are such a huge star why do you need festivals to make your films work is my question? Shouldnt it work anytime as they used to in the past? South superstars dont wait for festivals...film is ready they release it.
