No time wasted for what language they spoke and narratives as I suspected Amitabh will come in play.

But you r right. VFX let this movie down.. which is a shame. Let's see if Hr can compensate the VFX.

Afterall, HR has to carry iut all by himself. One man army.

u watched it too?where is ur review?they edited Sarsariya song...ya Ashu took close shots of that village head's mouth and then he was speaking in Hindi 😆...can't say how it will fare at the BO...

Film review: Mohenjo Daro is no history lesson

Put aside questions about the story and you might enjoy Ashutosh Gowariker's visual spectacle

Published: 11:21 August 12, 2016

Film: Mohenjo Daro

Stars: Hrithik Roshan, Pooja Hegde and Kabir Bedi

Director: Ashutosh Gowarikar

Stars: 2.5 out of 5

Before you watch Hrithik Roshan's Mohenjo Daro, you need to cast aside the belief that you will learn something substantial about the ancient civilisation set in 2016BC. You aren't going to be any smarter following this film.

You also need to ignore Pooja Hegde's perfectly arched eyebrows, manicured hands and feather-lined headgear. How did women of that era look so perfectly turned out? But ignore that voice that reasons with you and you might actually end up enjoying this visual spectacle. It's strictly a work of fiction spurred by director Ashutosh Gowariker's fertile imagination.

Roshan plays an indigo farmer, Sarman. He's a bronzed hero who can single-handedly plunge a rod into an alligator's head and carry its carcass as a badge of honour. He goes to his prosperous neighbouring village, Mohenjo Daro, for trading. But what happens there is something he hadn't bargained for. Falling in love with the priest's daughter and taking on Mohenjo Daro's treacherous ruler (Kabir Bedi) and his bestial son (Arunoday Singh) form the spine of this film.

The love story is painfully predictable. They fall in love at first sight. Not a word is exchanged, but their souls connect.

Roshan, arguably one of Bollywood's most handsome men, also lets his throbbing veins do the talking for some of the overwrought scenes. They have a life of their own. When he's angry or frustrated, his pupils dilate and his cheeks begin shaking. Subtlety is shown the door.

But, it's not all bad. The morality tale of good trumping evil is engaging and the climax, which involves an all-consuming flood is well captured. While Hegde lends good support, Bedi and his on-screen son snarl and roar to make their displeasure known. This is Roshan's showcase all the way. While it splutters in places, the folkish epic makes for a good one-time watch.

My review is here on page 33 or something.. of course I watched it..
Yeah, they took away Sarsariya song.. good. Coz as we know Ashu planned it to be 5 hours movie.. 😆 His heart would have been chopped when the movie was reduced to 2.35 hours..

I actually liked MD title song more than Tu hai.. on screen.

But no Rustom, no BW non support, nothing.. Only thing that can take MD down is poor VFX.

If Indian junta can look beyond that.. its a winner. Let's see. Do they wanna see how Sindhu river was all we were and how Ganga mata made all we are today.. ?

Does the film end where it does? Have we ever dared to go back as many years as 5000?

Do we accept that our civilisation was so advanced in ancient times.. that there was only one religion..

ppl dont even wanna see through the weekend.. duh.. they will have to report MD all the way to 180Crs.

And no, no Papa roshan. 😆

Mohenjo Daro movie review: Hrithik Roshan takes this monumental epic to a new level

Mohenjo Daro movie review: Hrithik Roshan takes this monumental epic to a new level

Ritika Handoo

So one of the biggest releases of 2016 is here! Ashutosh Gowariker's 'Mohenjo Daro' starring desi Greek God Hrithik Roshan released amid much anticipation and expectations from his fans. While Bollywood used social media platform to promote Akshay Kumar's 'Rustom', which also shared the same release date"this clearly did not affect the dancing superstar much.

Now, coming back to the movie. There were a lot many apprehensions about what and how the film will be projected, but now that the cat is out of the bag"we have a lot to scribble down.

The filmmaker takes us back in time, and it seems like just another day. The film opens up in 2016 BC, and we know our history class has just begun. So, automatically we start recalling the Indus Valley civilisation"mention of Harappan culture, the significance, and beautification of the majestic Mohenjo Daro runs through our mind.
Hrithik plays Sarman"reminding us of David from the famous 'David and Goliath'. He is young, restless, eager to help the distressed and yet he is massively muscular and athletic. Sarman is brawny and brainy at the same time. The first scene where he kills the bestial crocodile and is hailed among his tribe has been shot beautifully.

The film is a one-man army, riding high on Hrithik's shoulders. He has tried his best to make it look as believable as possible. The kind of effort this superstar has put shows through the narrative"be it the most clapped scene in the hall (where he kills those 'Bakar Zokar' named cannibals) or even the last part where he swims like a god through a torrential flood.

The storyline is basic. How a boy is taken back to his roots and helps to dethrone a baddie to save his 'motherland from his clutches. In this journey of awakening, we find mentions of the righteous river Sindhu and how that civilisation found the holy river Ganga.

Former beauty queen Pooja Hegde as Chaani looks fine in her debut performance, who however could have been told to act a certain way, especially in crucial scenes such as the one where pujari is being cremated or even when she is about to reveal the identity of Sarman. The impact was less, and maybe that's because it's her first time.

But, there remains an inescapable problem which can't be ignored. And that is loopholes in the script. Ashutosh has written the script of 'Mohenjo Daro' and it becomes hard to digest after a point to overlook basic flaws such as 'how come the people of Mohenjo Daro believe the truth about Sarman when they were not even told about it'. Also, these people are one who didn't believe his father and when Chaani just mentions he is the one, they blindly believe without questioning about his past.

Also, what looked jarring was the costume given to Chaani. Why was it a cleavage revealing outfit at all? When others were not given a similar style. To show her above in rank, could not be a reason"as the makers could have styled her in a way which looked appropriate and didn't dilute the main subject.

Besides, these flaws, 'Mohenjo Daro' was smooth like silk in terms of cinematography by C. K. Muraleedharan. Music by maestro A R Rahman and especially the recurrent background theme was magical to the ears. Kabir Bedi as Maham and Arunoday Singh as Moonja played the negative force with much conviction. It was also a delight to hear the heavy baritone of Kabir Bedi.

Overall, do watch 'Mohenjo Daro' for Hrithik Roshan only. But keep your history textbooks miles away from it!
