Yesterday I watched Gulzar's Mere Apne

Mainey sayad Meena kumari ki pehli movie dekhi.

Usney jyadatar black and white movies kie hain.ye bala rangeen movie hai.

Is movie main usney young aur buddhi aurat dono charecter achi ki hai.

movie main Vinod Khanna aur Shratughna dono bhi hain.Per Meenaji sab pe bhari the.

certainly she is one of better actress in Bollywood history.

She is one of the greatest of all time.

You should watch Sahib Biwi Aur Ghulam and Pakeezah...She was terrific in those movies...She was famous for being a tragedy queen and when she cries, it leaves you teary-eyed as well.

People compare her to Kangana but KR can never be even 10% of what she was...Meena Kumari was a class actress.

I heard she died of alcoholism 😔

Anyway Pakeezah is a way overrated movie IMO, but Saheb Biwi Aur Gulam is something else and she gives a virtuoso performance (her characters becomes an alcoholic in that movie)

This song, her body language and subtle expressions are so spot on ⭐️

Meena Kumari is/was the Tragedy Queen of BW!

She had a Tragic life off-screen and enacted so many tragic roles onscreen too!

Mere Apne was one of her last movies I think. She was already quite sick at that time. She died so young from liver failure.

Her best performance was in Saheb Biwi Aur Ghulam...a classic film by Guru Dutt. Her role as Chhoti Bahu was so moving, leaves you in tears.

Pakeezah was also good, especially when she hears the train whistle while dancing, she stops and that far away look in her eyes...⭐️

I have never seen any actor in BW, male or female who can do the drunk act as brilliantly as her.
Only one that came close IMO was Kangana in Queen.
