it was supposed to Oye Veh which is a Yiddish expression meaning dismay. I do use Oye too as I am desi too. I am sorry it came across as attacking you. But my point is this, they are being themselves, they are not aping anyone.
And please don't tell me "pop culture has a mixture of drugs and alcohol'. What is bhang ? What is feni ? What is arrack ? When you have regional alcohol in India how can you say "pop culture" meaning western culture. As for drugs in the US we have drug laws. It has many faults but there is a constant war on drugs. We have something called DEA. What does India have ? Please don't tell me it will never happen in India or people are sanskari. You have everything from extra marital affairs with gunghat wearing women to drugs and alcohol. If India was so good my parents would not have left everything and gone abroad. Where I grew up is not perfect, but they are more open and dare I say honest. There is a hypocrisy in Indian culture that gives out sanskari vibes but reality is absolutely not true.
I do agree on keeping away from drugs and alcohol in any culture.
