when it was released, it was def in the B grade league

as for the interview, I dont understand why is she expected to sugar coat everything, what she said here makes absolute sense

while others who starred with superstars received instant stardom and remain there, while she climbed up to that spot and reached there and she is happy now with the choices she has ...

gosh...some in the forum want her to be perfectly diplomatic and sugar coat everything, what she said is her POV on her growth and her contemporaries...where was she nasty or looking down on anyone

She isn't expected to sugar quote but a little humility never did anyone bad...Moreover, do you really support her statements in such a condescending tone undermining other female stars who have their own success stories?

If Gangster is B-grade, so is she still a B-grade actress? Because I don't see her being cast in an out and out commercial high budget cinema...I could be proved wrong but until then I would like to keep my image of her being an art house heroine(that's what I call her, NOT B-grade like she chose to call Emraan etc)

how do we know the tone or her inner feeling or the emotion she felt when this is a printed interview where words and expressions can be manipulated or taken out of context
I don't see any statement that reeked of arrogance here at all, she said it as it is which is purely her POV

she is not a B-Grade actress anymore but that's how she started, she was never considered an A grade actress unlike an Alia bhatt or a Sonam who was immediately called an A -Lister because they were handed stardom on a platter and also because of their background ...(nothing wrong in that )

but she did climb up the ladder to get there, what ever stardom she achieved is purely because of her work and not because of whom she worked with or the banner she starred in ...

that is an achievement and that is what differs her from her contemporaries which is exactly the point she has stated in her interview

But Deepika(who she keeps comparing herself and even here) is also an outsider and worked and is still working her behind off to be where she is...Nothing has been handed to her on a platter, like you mentioned...So what's the difference?

And tone, because this is print media one has to be even more careful in making statements if they don't want to sound condescending...

Deepika shot straight to the A-list. She debuted in OSO which was the highest grosser at the time, then had a high profile relationship with Ranbir.
She wasn't the directors and producers' first choice (Katrina, Priyanka and Kareena were still ruling) but she was easily in the top 5 to 10. Add to this that it was at the time Preity and Rani's career were starting to dive and Aishwarya had gotten married.

She works with acclaimed and south after directors and can act alongside A-listers. She's very much an A-list actress.
I think her fee for endorsements and movies might also be indicator that she's one of the top heroines now.

She is still a Art house heroine whose main directors are 'B grade' (as per her terminology)...She is like Shabana Azmi of this generation...Power house of acting but only suitable for art house kind of cinema...Why does she think there is anything wrong with being a B grade movie star?

Agree whenever Kangana speaks she either reeks of extreme jealousy and or speaks insulting comments about her contemporizes.

If by defending and explaining my POV I'm embarrassing myself, so be it. Read my first comment to understand what I meant.
I, by no mean, was looking down on the film's content or production value. I was simply stating a fact. By Bollywood standards in 2006, Emraan Hasmhi was still considered a B-grade actor so was the movies produced by the Bhatt production house.

Do you think the like of Kareena, Rani or Preity would have done this movie at the time?

After this Hrithik fiasco I doubt she will remain on top. Most of the mainstream Bollywood dislikes her and is wary of her. So her stardom may not remain all the time.

I hope you're wrong.

She is talented so interesting directors would still want to work with her. Hansal Mehta is supporting her, so is Anand L Rai... Btw, directors are kinda excentrics so they'll look at her craft instead at her personnal life and it seems to be the time for female oriented roles so she basically doesn't need a male A-lister to stay afloat. All she needs is commercial or critical success which she may gets with Rangoon, Simran and Rani of Jhansi.

I don't think mainstream Bollywood dislikes her ; and is there still such a thing as a mainstream Bollywood? Everyone seem to mix up because the commercial crowd wants critical success and vice versa. She's been praised a lot and note that people from Bollywood mainly stayed away from commenting this issue. Maybe they don't want to choose sides or they don't care because worse happen behind the scenes.
