KI & KA' MOVIE REVIEW: AN UNUSUAL LOVE STORY WITH USUAL TWISTS
Directed By : R Balki
Produced By : R Balki, R K Damani, Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, Sunil Lulla
Cast : Arjun Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Swaroop Sampat
Bollywood Bubble Rating :
A love-story between a man and a woman is too usual. But it all changes when what we expect from a man comes from a woman, and vice versa. This is where R Balki's Ki & Ka' has won our hearts.
Kia (Kareena Kapoor Khan) & Kabir (Arjun Kapoor) meet, fall in love and get married. Kia is ambitious, hard working, doesn't want to give up on her career for the sake of marriage & motherhood. Kabir is an emotional son to a rich businessman who aspires to become like his late mother. To him, maintaining a house and keeping a family together is an art and he wants to remain a house husband'. How would their relationship turn out to be? You got to watch it out.
The foremost arena where Balki has brought in an entirely new vision is of course the role reversal. In a world where men and women are almost born with pre-set gender roles & hardly get to make their own choices, this is surely refreshing. But that's not all. The film, in a fine manner, touches various other issues which are often unnoticed and thus, suppressed. It throws light on factors which have always directly or indirectly influenced behavioural acts of genders & the mutual relationship between them. After watching Ki & Ka', you would probably rediscover yourself from several new notions.
Does that mean the film was perfect? Well, it wasn't. At times, it just got messy. At times, it was predictable. At times, we all knew what was going to happen. But! Considering that the heart was at the right place, the flaws could be excused.
We don't know how much Arjun Kapoor assimilated the emotions into himself, but he was just fine. This is probably the most intense character performed by him so far. Kareena Kapoor Khan is apt but could be better. The treat is to get Swaroop Sampat back after so many years! We wish we had more of her.
Technical aspects, however, are average. What needs a special mention is the music. Apart from illayaraja who needs no further praise, we found Mithoon & Meet Bros-Anjjan apt. It is sometimes deep, sometimes peppy, sometimes just romantic and that is what saves it from boredom.
Check it out. You won't regret!
