Rajeev Khandelwal did not get the backup of a producer like KJ, the way Fawad got. His fall out with Ekta also might have been an obstacle. (People like KJo being friendly with Ekta). Whatever he got was just due to his hard work.

Fawad too has to come out of KJo banner soon and establish himself with small producers. People like KJo and Yashraj will just use and throw new comers, be it SSR or Ali Zafar. Maintaining good relation with Sonam's production will be quite good for Fawad.

Fawad is not very well known in non Internet population of India

You are forgetting Shahrukh Khan and Vidya Balan

They both started out their career with TV and are now big names in Industries

Hello! The biggest movie star in the world ie SRK started his career with TV.

Coming to Fawad IMO several factors worked in his favor-he is charismatic, has good presence, can act and is a looker. That helped him get noticed first to get his first break in BW. Then a stroke of good luck when ZGH was telecast before the release of his debut which made him popular in India. By the time Indian TV stars complete their TV assignments and join BW, do a film and it releases people forget him and TV stardom doesnt help. And then he was able to cash in well on his early gains which is pretty crucial for a newcomer especially an outsider like him. After this he will be judged for his performances in his films and it will depend on how well he plays his cards.
