@MEB (briefer reply). Yes American born and raised. I lived all over America in my childhood (for father's work) plus am kind of a linguistics junky. I am a pretty good mimic - which helped a lot at all those new schools :). There are many subtle and not so subtle variations in the "American" accent. Most natives can "place" an American to the region of the country he grew up in. Most will be able to occasionally detect "otherness" in the speech of someone who didn't grow up in their region even after years of living there and "losing" their childhood accent. In addition to geographic related differences there are ethnic, educational, and socioeconomic differences in pronunciation, grammar, lexicon, idiom, etc, etc. It's really interesting how much you can tell about a person from their accent.

One of the reasons I believe Katrina is trying to sound more Indian is because Indian actors frequently sound more American than I expect (certainly more American than English) when they speak English. Ironically Americanized English is more Indian 😉 (to me at least).
