Shah Rukh Khan is one man who knows exactly what he is serving to his audience. He knows which film of his deserves what kind of promotions. That's why often it is said that the man manages to recover money even before his films' release. Now, we can't vouch for that but it is a proven fact that the kind of promotional strategies Shah Rukh Khan employs is beyond anything anybody has envisioned till then. Let us tell you a few incidences of similar nature:
2002: Devdas - First commercial Hindi film to premiere at Cannes!
Shah Rukh Khan's Devdas was big from the word go. It was made on a mammoth scale which romanticised the lost love of a drunk lawyer who is foreign returned. SRK as the lovelorn man earned a lot of accolades but the adulation in Cannes where the film premiered was just priceless. It floored one an all and the audience was left speechless.
2010: My Name Is Khan - Trailer launched and beamed across Star Network's channels for the first time!
Called the Roadblock technology, My Name Is Khan was the first movie in Bollywood history, whose trailer was launched at an event first and then immediately played on TV across Star Network's Channels which made for a total of 11 channels! Till then nobody had done such a deal and this made sure, whoever was at home had access to the trailer as well.
2011: Ra.One's 10 minute trailer was launched at India-Australia's Semi Final match at the World Cup!
Superbowl? Well, Shah Rukh made it happen in India too. Yes, a 10-minute trailer of Ra.One, his most ambitious project till date, was released during the India-Australia Semi-Final match in 2011. Apart from that, he kicked off a 3,600-feet long fan mail to collect the good wishes of people who love him. It covered 36 cities across the world! That's not all! SRK got bigger with this big film in his career by launching a customised channel on Youtube for all film related promotional video materials. This idea had never been explored by anyone till then and he just grabbed the opportunity! PHEW!
2013: Chennai Express - Tweet for the trailer from Mumbai to Rameshwaram!
Chennai Express saw the bringing together of Shah Rukh Khan and Rohit Shetty for the first time and there was a deafening noise surrounding it. Obviously, the superstar wanted to cash in on the hoopla and the way he did will make realise why he is so ardently followed by everyone in the industry. He started a virtual train which is fuelled by tweets. It has to reach from Mumbai to Rameshwaram which will decide when the trailer gets released on digital media. So fans have to tweet so that the trailer can be launched. Can you name anyone who has done something this out-of-the-box ever?
2014: Happy New Year - Trailer gets a Whatsapp notification!
Shah Rukh Khan does it again and this time he used an app which had become a necessity - Whatsapp. As per the promotional plan, the users just had to give a missed call or leave a Whatsapp message at +91 9819020202 and the trailer will be made available on the chatting mobile app. In fact, the limitations of message broadcast in the app was cancelled for the same. How cool is this man?
2016: Fan - A film for his fans unveiled by his fans!
Fan is what everyone is waiting for now. A film that will take SRK's career to new heights. We will get to see an actor were longing for. Even Kajol had said during one of her interviews that he is an underrated actor. Well, this film has all the bearing to do justice to his calibre but it's about his fans, he kept it all about his fans. The Fan trailer was unveiled recently when the 4000 fans who entered YRF for the first time, screamed aloud. Only when the decibels reached 120, the trailer got launched! GOD THIS MAN!
Now you know why he is one superstar everyone looks up to because he knows the business that made him a superstar TOO BLOODY WELL!
