Is it necessary for actors to be extroverted and outgoing nowadays?

In earlier eras, actors could get away with being introverts or reticent, but with the rabidness of social media and journalism these days, is it a disadvantage for actors to not be outgoing?

For example, Sridevi or Madhuri are quite sedate and introverted in real life. They are not extroverts and are not 'hyper'. Do today's stars have to maintain that bubbly persona for the cameras or is their work enough to appeal to people?

There is also the question of networking. If someone just likes curling up in a blanket at home, they may lose out on chances to socialize with bigwigs.

What do you guys think?

No...all this social media image is only for those people who arent doing the basic things right ie choosing the right films and having a continuous stream of work.
But yes I do feel its important these days to stay connected with fans directly or indirectly. Just be yourself but dont appear on when you need fans to watch your films.

I wonder whether Sridevi would have made it big, if she were to debut in the current era. Then, what talent we would have missed, just because she is not talkative in front of the media. How much talent we might be loosing in current time, as the focus is on loudmouths.

Relevant point.

So, do you feel a Twitter or an instagram profile is necessary for an actor?

I agree with this. Both tendencies are perfectly fine, but introversion is being vilified these days and extroversion is being seen as the 'way to be'.

Those who aren't outgoing are labeled boring.

Extroverted ? I'm not sure
But you need to have a strong network...Its not only in acting profession but in service sector too
Having a strong network helps..You can be immensely talented or intelligent but its of no use unless you are getting a right kind of chance to prove what you are actually capable of..

Probably star kids who are introverts can still have strong networks despite being reticent, but would a Rekha do well today if she sat at home without attending parties?

@bold- True that. Do you then think industry outsiders can survive being introverts?

Absolutely. For two reasons-1)You remain connected with fans
2)If you dont connect fakes create accounts and create confusion which in the end creates a very bad impression on fans, media and colleagues.
If an actor is not comfortable they can have their PR team handle the accounts but it must exist.
Actors really do need fans...during tough times its the fans that prop up a star. Thats how someone like Shahid has survived despite flops...he has a strong online fanbase.

Industry insiders or outsiders cant survive without networking...that is an absolute must. I am not saying they have to be active or extroverted on social media but they do need good contacts and have the ability to network to do well. This is especially true for outsiders...the most successful ones are the best ones at networking.

hmm I think somehow fans think if u an introvert and quiet that u not as interested in being a star as someone who is. for instance an ark, Sid vs. ranveer and varun. to most vd and ranveer seem to want it more. ARK seems to have no gumption whatsoever. does he live on a farm when he is not doing a movie. but then look at arjun he seems to be in btw his movies do reasonable well. bt on IF he isn't seen as a success. for the females whether they an introvert or extravert it does not matter to their stardom if they have any that is coz only their PR articles count

Interesting point you made, Sandi.

That actually also makes a different argument about how personality is important for the guys, but not for the girls, 'cause only their looks count.

ARK- He seems laid back and yeah, maybe that makes him seem like he is not ambitious.

At the same time, I think people have preferences too. For some people, Sid is boring, but I like that he is steady. I like his laid back personality.
