Ranbir Kapoor and Paresh Rawal's resemblance to the real Sanjay and his late father, Sunil Dutt, is striking as they shoot amidst tight security

On Monday, Ranbir Kapoor and Paresh Rawal, who play Sanjay and Sunil Dutt respectively in Rajkumar Hirani's biopic on Dutt Jr, were spotted on the sets of the film in Kamal Amrohi Studio in the western suburbs of Mumbai.

Ranbir, who has gained 12 kg and grown out his hair to play Sanjay from the 1990s, was dressed in a baggy shirt, a waist-coat and dark trousers. He was soon joined by his screen dad, who bore an uncanny resemblance to the late Dutt patriarch in a crisp white kurta-pyjama and a Nehru jacket.

The day's shoot kicked off at 9 am and wrapped up around 6 pm. For the sequence, a warehouse had been erected at the far end of the studio which borders the Aarey Milk Colony. The premises is guarded by as many as 20 bouncers.

The film kicked off on January 14 and Hirani hopes to wrap it up by June. "We are targeting a Christmas 2017 release," Hirani had told Mirror (Jan 14) earlier, adding, "It's not a film about guns, drugs and the underworld. It's a feel-good film about a father-son relationship... A buddy film with Sanju's many friends adding up to one from the US, played by Vicky Kaushal."

The much-awaited biopic also features Ranbir's Ae Dil Hai Mushkil co-star, Anushka Sharma, as a journalist, while Sonam Kapoor, who debuted alongside him in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Saawariya in 2007, reunites with him to embody all the women Sanjay has loved. Incidentally, Sonam's Neerja co-star, Jim Sarbh, is also a part of the cast, while the film marks a comeback for Manisha Koirala, who has been brought on-board to play Sanjay's late mother, actress Nargis.
