Why are these films with humongous budgets, damp squibs in terms of visuals, content and theatrical experience in general?

Ra.One, Kochadaiyaan, Bombay Velvet, I (Shankar and Vikram) and also Krrish 3, Dhoom 3, HNY to some extent. If you consider slightly older movies, we can also include Blue in the list.

I'm not really talking about the recovery as such, but reception of these movies in general. So much money is spent on these movies, yet the results are not satisfactory. People don't mention them very fondly.

Where do you think does the problem lie? In controlling the budget? Or no proper vision? Or compromising over the story-line while focussing too much on the grandeur ad gimmicks?

Movies like Mughal-e-azam ,Bahubali, Robot are exceptions though.

All things aside, Robot was not even a decent film in terms of visuals, content, theatrical experience by any standards what so ever
No scope for subjectivity 😛

I personally didn't like the movie much, so I wouldn't have a problem adding it to the damp squib list, but I don't remember the wom of this film being negative. So I put it in the relatively well received films. That's it. 😆

instead of quality and content major part of budget , say 50% dedicated towards star's increasing fees and promotion . They overlook the basic product , content in this process, when the real product is bad than star , promotion etc. cant always help it to be successful.

It's pretty sad though, such improper use of money! 😆

James Cameron is the boss of the biggest budget movies and he puts his vision in them.
BW when they make big budget films, they're usually going by a trend, put in things like "audience ko yeh acha lagega" types.

Can Bolly think of ever making a film like Mad Max fury where they talk about how more mixing of blood is needed to stave off albinism and such genetic disorders.

Can they make something like Avatar where the earth is completely destroyed in ever growing greed/consumerism and war.

Can they make interstellar where GMOs have completely decimated the bees and only food available is rotting GM corn.

saruk made ra1 because robot did well. that's not the way to sink your money. Bolly is too concerned with numbers.

the whole budget of Dhoom3 was 175cr
shot in USA aamir khan fees and delay all contributed to the increase of budget

or a film like d3 should have cost more than 110-120cr with a big star

Bang Bang budget was 170cr

it was due to faulty planning and delay they did use foreign technicians but the film shouldn't have cost more than 125-130 with HR and Katrina on board

Budgets of Jodha Akbar and Ram-Leela weren't as huge as the above mentioned movies, I guess. Devdas, probably yes.
