Raees is based on the life of a Gujarati don Abdul Lateef , i trust Rahul Dholakia to make a brilliant film on that . His movie on Gujarat riots in "02 got him a national award.

I can't envisage SRK pulling off a historical movie. So no. He is not versatile. But he's looking swoon-worthy in and as Raees😳

There is no one in Bollywood that is versatile. I've never seen an actor adapt himself to a role. There are always shades of them in every character they play.
Swades is the only movie in the last 15 years where SRK (the actor) wasn't visible and it was all about the character. Even Chak De India, which is so popular there are shades of SRK in that character. After Swades he looks different in Raees at least in that first poster.

Being versatile is Daniel Day Lewis. His roles are vastly different and he immerses himself fully into each and every character looks, walks, talks, eats, sleeps like the character. I can never tell it is DDL the actor playing the role. That's dedication.

SRK is basically a lazy actor and his movies rely on his starpower. If he picks the right scripts and directors to work with, those who truly push him to his highest potential, cinegoers like me who look for something more than just 'entertainment' in a film will start taking him more seriously. A performance-oriented role in combination with a skilled director can do WONDERS to bring the best out of the performer. And this one is not devoid of talent. An untalented person cannot pull off what he did in movies like Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, Swades, Chak De India, etc.

He can't do everything, but he is versatile enough to have a footing in a few different genres. Personally, I feel he should balance between his masala movies and doing something more substantial. That would work best for his career at this stage.
