I have never gotten myself round to watch barfi, lunchbox , BMB etc , i watched PK and enjoyed 1st half because it was funny but i was sleeping and yawning in second half , i tried to rewatch TZP with my friend but we turned very sad and emotional so we discontinued , we all enjoyed 3idiots but that senseless delivery scene made the whole family uncomfortable.
I like to watch movies to destress myself and to get entertainment not to learn or get preached or be emotional so for me any movie i like is good cinema

Success is the ultimate goal for everyone and these superstars are made by general audience , IF ki intelligent janta lives in a different world 😆

I think SRK has it all wrong. Just look at KHNH or MHN. He got away with a lot of vulgar jokes in those two movies, while he was panned for the same type of jokes in RA.One and HNY. His formula for a successful movie is the same as it was then. But it's not working anymore. Plus his age, then he was younger and people bought everything, now they don't. I don't know where this will take him, but I hope Raees gives him a new lease.

I don't blame him though, he made a career out of romcoms and family-type movies like K3G, K2H2
and MHN. Salman still looks like a million bucks and has a successful masala genre working for him, Aamir has created a niche of his own. Dilwale looks like a last ditch effort to revive his romance and family drama genre.

I know Sunny, and you know how happy I am about that. 😆

But honestly, the whole idea of Dilwale and it being called Dilwale of all the names they could think of, feels like a joke. Ah well I hope it works out for him, I'll be the happiest if it does.

Arsal talked about only quality being remembered. What about Aamir's big hits Dil, Raja Hindustani, Ghajini, Dhoom 3 etc? Are they "quality"? They are entertainers. And they matter that's why Aamir did them.

Remembering is subjective. They still ask yesteryear stars to do stuff from popular old films. Rarely only quality is remembered, though exceptions are there. IMDb is no indication of real life as Internet penetration in India is still less, not all use it, nor they know of old films. Kashyap films get great ratings there whereas, real life people don't bother about him. Mithun's highest rated film on IMDb is Gunda. You think it is quality? 😉

I agree with Fiery and others that audience bashing is prejudiced. I loathe rickshaw wallah comments! Why insult both audience and class of people working in a certain profession?

I have seen country bashing also based on this. Like why?

Your preferred film does well so great but others do well then use words like garbage, filth, shit or call people rickshaw wallah? 😲

Frankly the filmmakers know better. David Dhawan is an FTII Alumnus. Now you will say his films don't reflect that. But point is why should he make festival films? Why can't he use the knowledge to make an entertainer?

You hate Govinda or find him vulgar. But many love the comedies and light hearted stuff. They might find something else vulgar though. Like many award winning or top rated films such as TDP.

Frankly speaking, superstar is not the one who makes fool of himself. He knows his audience and tries to entertain them, transport them to some other world for a while. A National Award winner like Ajay also does entertainers. He knows you praise him for Zakhm but don't come to theatre to watch it!

I can't relate to Dabangg and I have never watched Wanted. But I understand I am not the one who Salman might be catering to. I can make do with reruns of 90s stuff if I really want timepass.

I didn't watch OSO and MHN in theatre but caught CDI and Swades. I have not watched any SRK film after that in theatre. I can only take my personal decision. I can't trash him if he wants to attract larger section of audience. He is doing pretty well without the ones who made choice of not watching his films.

I watched TZP, Lagaan, RDB, 3I in theatre but not others. It doesn't matter either. Aamir has audience for other films and I have choice of not watching those.

What's the need to label audience or stars?

Krissh series is huge with kids. They drag families along. Why bash then?

No people don't go for BO. They go because they like it!

BO reports don't draw audience. Otherwise many hyped films would succeed with fake news. But they didn't.

I think popular work is important. I remember Irrfan from Chandrakanta and Banegi Apni Baat. I revisited Pankaj Kapur's old films after watching him in Office Office. Same way I wouldn't watch older films if not for some popular stuff. I liked the actors, hence got encouraged to check old films. But I know I can't watch Ghar the way I can anytime watch Khubsoorat.

I don't understand Rajini phenomenon at all but I did watch Sivaji on TV for pure timepass even though I laughed through it. But it serves him, his dubbed films run everywhere. It means he had audience. Even if I laughed at his film, it won't matter.

We don't watch films for cause of cinema or acting. We watch what we might like or find time for.

A superstar is relatable. In many different ways to many different people. Same guys did family songs, same guys did action. And at different points of time, they got different audience. They did it with certain consistency. Hence they are what they are. I wonder why is it such a matter of debate?

It just recently dawned upon me that the superstars of today (SRK, Salman) are the way they are, because they are pure people pleasers.

Salman does a penis flappy dance, gives a dialog about beating someone so bad they won't know where to fart from, and he comes a money-minting machine.

SRK does a 156 pelvic thrusts, makes a bunch of sexual jokes, stars in movies that have no rhyme or reason in terms of an actual story (Happy New Year), and he becomes king.

What are people's thoughts on the notion that people who are willing to make fools out of themselves are the ones who become superstars?

Discuss 😆

So are u passing a judgement on the intelligence of a common man...or the fans of these two superstars??😳

I would say.. for the movies they did earlier, they did not make fools of themselves.

But post 2007-2008.. I would have to agree with her.

No judging their fans.. but this whole argument of super-stardom is so annoying. No one cares for the Actor. It's all about stardom. Quantity[BO numbers] over quality. 🥱

You have no right to comment on box-office or super stardom because you are a Ranbir or someone else's fan. I have every right because I am a fan of Salman, Shahrukh, Katina etc.

But it is a balance isn't it?

There were so many topics on Ranbir, PRAISE khan's or talk about how Aamir isn't all that compared to the other two

I was told in a topic last week that I should look at stats. In short screw my taste, and look at the majority or "stardom". Or screw "acting" because it doesn't count, but focus on BO. At this rate IF is turning as rabid as the Twilight fans when it comes to SRK and Salman - lets not dare question their acting or how bad the movie is.

I like Salman more than SRK, and I am looking forward to PRDP, but the movies he has done last couple of years I am not going to praise them.
