Don't you think if BV were a success his partner's from Phantom could have gotten money to move ahead with other projects. But because of BV being such a colossal failure when will we see movies from the likes of Vikramaditya Motwane who is just a good if not better than Anurag Kashyap in terms of vision and story telling.

Same here. I just hope Vikram didn't lose a lot of money in this debacle. I would hate to see him not make any films in the future.

Have other directors given a statement like this when their films became such huge disasters? I'm wondering what prompted him to write this? Is it just who he is or did he feel the pressure because of how bad the movie has been received?

Okay that was so well written..Am glad he stood by his product & am so happy he din blame the viewers for rejecting the film..Thats just an easy cop out & makes you sound condescending..And yup, i agree with someone who said the next film will be his best till date..None of his films have been dissed so badly till date..And i firmly believe Ugly is one of the best films to come out in recent times..And while i hated GOW, i loved his take on Devdas the most ( Dev D was quirky & fun & all things you don expect a person to do with such an overdone tragedy)..So am sure he'l be back with a vengeance..I hope he sticks to small budget films & stays away from stars for a while..He doesn't need them anyway..

P.S. I hope to god Ranbir stands by the film..I'l be really really disappointed as a fan if he tries to shift the blame or blames Anurag for effing up..It din work, big deal..Not the end of the world..Own up & move on..

I don't think either Ranbir or Anushka will go back on it now or it'll be very surprising if they do. I can see them saying that the movie didn't work, connect or turn out as they had hoped (maybe not that either?), but I don't think they will blame Anurag. Far from it, because Ranbir actually lobbied hard for this role himself and he even stands by Besharam. Anushka said that the craft behind BV is what made her appreciate filmmaking and propelled her own production house. Ranbir even mentioned in interviews that the movie may or may not work...so I think they all felt or knew that it wouldn't be received well and are probably prepared. Even Anurag's own, very reasonable note here seems representative of that...as if they just wanted to release the movie for the sake of concluding what they had worked on regardless of the response or not like they had much choice either.

VAM will start his next movie when he has a script that he wants to go forward with. He just shelved one, so he's probably still working on developing another and it's unlikely that he'd have one ready to go even if BV had succeeded. And as for the funding, it doesn't solely come from Phantom, nor should be rushed. Hopefully his next movie will be on a comparatively unique topic like Udaan, rather than just a love story like Lootera, because he has the capability of relaying meaningful messages and the type of movies being liked by the audience are changing too. None of these guys thrive on the song and dance, couple-centered themes anyways.

The film is pathetic, this film will be no cult classic as some people claim because AK directed it.

Next time, don't waste Money on such crap.

He usually engages with his naysayers (to a fault) and a lot of people were waiting for BV to fail (large representation of this sort on SNS)...so especially on the footsteps of that article about him leaving India, he's pretty much saying he still stands by what he made and he's not going to stop making movies as some people would rejoice in the thought of. So it's who he is. I'd think at this point the pressure on him is probably pretty much at its lowest...he's pushed out the monster and is liberated of the constant negativity and looming budget issues 😆

That was well-written and not arrogant/condescending towards the audience or anyone else. Everyone screws up badly every now and then, all you can do is own upto it and move on.

I hope people appreciate hundreds of other technicians working equally hard in other commercial films which are often seen as films for dumb audience though they make money.
It takes a lot of effort to recreate old Bombay in BV as much as it takes to create an action sequence on train tracks in Chennai Express.
